EK civic project - Respray costs?
About 8 months ago picked up a 1997 civic 1.4i EK hatchback from my neighbour, who is a good friend of mine but never really drove much - he's had the car from new and it only has 48000 miles on it. I've got a lot planned for it - So far Recaro seats, 4 point harnesses (back seats removed), I've got some new wheels on order and there's more to come - but right now I'm looking at a respray since the paint's white and has small rust spots on several panels caused by untreated stone chips. I have a friend who works at a paint suppliers who has been able to find me a source for the paint I want at about half the normal price, and I may be able to do all the sanding work on the car myself. The only thing I'm not entirely sure on is what I'd be expected to pay for a respray like this, I've had quotes in the £1200-£1500 mark for the respray from scratch including the cost of them buying the paint, but what would you expect to pay for a good respray if supplying the paint yourself? How much would I save by sanding down the paintwork myself?
Oh, and this is my first post here, hi |

White is one of the easiest colours to match. You might get away with local repairs to the rust patches and save yourself a fortune.
£1200 is a lot to pay for a respray on an older car |

Some places do resprays for 99 quid, and on a white car as has been said shouldn't be too hard to match the colours.

Depends on how good you want a respray as to how much its going to cost/is worth. Known of cheap £500 jobs come out ok but don't expect them to last too long. For a respray in the same colour £1200-£1500 for a good standard of workmanship isn't unreasonable. You get what you pay for at the end of the day, if you are keeping the for some time then its worth doing things right.

Remove the rust yourself ? - I'd let the "pro" do the lot, if you are intending to keep the car - if a bubble erupts later, the sprayer should be liable, but if you do it, then you are potentially looking at an expensive bill ...
Providing the paint yourself is fine, but I'd be suspicious of anyone offering a 'proper job' (not just a 'flash coat') for less than say £ 1200 ... |
