dash boards lights

i dont know if this is a bug or just an irritation as a couple of you may know i have only had a civic for about 3 weeks but one thing i have noticed is when i put the key in the ignition the dashboard lights all light up as if the head lights are turned on.... in the day its not a problem just at night i forget to turn the lights on because they look as if they are on because everything is lit up if you know what i mean .... is this a fault or is it normal with the civic's? my car is a 55 civic type s (old shape)
thanks very much
Adam

not another driver who drives without their lghts on when it's going dark.??
The amount of drivers i see doing this is unbelievable, especially in the wet or fog. Sorry Rant over, just wound up from yesterday while driving to and from donington. (cars with no lights on in thick fog in the morning and heavy rain in the afternoon )

Ive had a 52 plate for 6 years and have never found a dashboard adjustment lamp, the facia dims a bit when the lights are actually turned on.
