Civic 2003 Front Speaker Replacement

Hi,

This is my first post guys so here goes..

I have managed to obtain a workshop manual describing how to dismantle the front door panel to gain access to the speakers - however it describes 'removal of trim pads'. Having never done this before I'm a little worried about once I get the trim pads out I won't be able to get them back in...

Does anyone have any experience of door panel removal that could offer advice etc.?

Also, does anyone know the size of speaker behind the panel? I have some 6 1/4" mid range but am unsure if they'll fit straight in.

Cheers,

Andy

2003 model is quite difficult, because the handhold has a lot of hooks, whic imho aren't made to be dissmantled.
Be careful at the triangular trim, so you don't break the hooks on the bottom, lift it up after you pul out the clip on the upper part.
Otherwise, the clips around the door card are tough to remove, if you do it without the designated tools, you easily end up with damaged door card hook holders (or whatever).
I used to have Alpine component speakers in front, used the supplied adapter ring, but this requires cutting the hole to a bigger diameter.

Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks for the prompt respone p64.

Regarding the tool, the workshop manual states to use a Snap On A177A trim pad remover which does not seem to be available in the UK. There are other trim pad removers available, but none seem to have the 45degree slope on the arm - is this required or will any trim pad remover work?

Many thanks again,

Andy

Almost any, as long as it goes under the plastic, the 45 deg shape is there only for leverage and some places eg. inner side of the doors, where the body gets in the way. But those clips are easy comparing to the bottom ones.

ps: my dealer used two screwdrivers, I just looked the other way not to cry.

Nice info, I don't think I'll attempt the screwdriver technique though!

One last thing that is making me really scared to go ahead and do this... Do the trim pads just 'pop back in', or does it require a knack that takes years of practice?!

Thanks a lot,

Andy
