Racing
I can't say I have noticed in auto mode my pre-mod car pulls away in second (I am sure its first). The mid range performance of these cars with 6 ratios is quite amazing for what is a bog standard family car. The other day I was in a bit of a hurry and merging southbound off the M25 on to M1 a Imprezza was in my way. I put it in manual mode, floored the car and swept past the Imprezza in one swoop. This obviously annoyed the driver as I could hear the car 'spooling-up' on the turbo and subsequently giving chase. What surprised me was how the Civic gave the Iprezza quite a good run for its money up to 'er' I was only slightly above the speed limit officer'. The fun thing was when the guy pulled off at the next intersection he hooted and waved! Must have been impressed?
Before anyone says he wasn't trying I have to that as standard Imprezzas are not as quick as most owners think they are. |

The Impreza is like most turbo charged cars and the Type R, off revs it is slow, but once 'spooled-up', it's rocketship time. |

Imprezza
Of course you are correct Foggy. That is just the reason why my other car (427 cu in 4 speed 390 hp Vette) will absolutely 'annihilate' many other 'performance' cars in terms of 40-80 mph mid-range ( including Imprezza's) albeit initially!!!!! , although it will only record a 5 sec or so 0-60 mph and high 13/low14 sec 1/4 mile. When I say initially, yes the turbo cars do need to spool-up. By then a good non-turbo car will 'over the horizon'. Yes the turbo's will catch up, but by then its all over and done with. Too few people realise that with a turbo car one needs to 'plan' things a little to get the beat out of them. Give me 'cubes' and torque any day (Civic hasn't got too much of eother of those!)
