What type of usb lead does it take? Chances are it's either USB B, or Mini USB.

Its like a headphone socket for the iPod at one end, USB at the other.
Not available unless you get a subscription kit from Talex

Is it as simple as getting a USB lead, even though the updates are free?

I had to enter my unique pin no for my current updates.

I was having a look around just in case Talex do end up pulling out and I was amazed at some of the prices of other units.

The latest Origin (now named Pogo) is £250 !!!!

I have a TalexLite and there are no updates at present and have been since Nov 2007. The company have now been taken over by NOVUS Systems‏, I believe that they charge around £20 for a cable. We should get free updates soon, not sure when.

There is a whole thread for this over at GPSWorld.

They seem to have more info than most and the bottom line is that the Talex is now dead in te water with only a little chance of any more updates.

Well worth reading the last few pages :

Pocket GPS World Forums-viewtopic-Talex updates

Just a quick update -

Talex updates are now back online, mine has just updated to 8013 via the original Talex software.

I Have no idea.

When I got the USB lead early last year it came with the software.

Install the software and run it, it connects to its own site behind the scenes so you don't get to see.

Bear in mind that to update you will need your unique subscription code (at least I did this morning). It's looking like at the moment the updates are only free if you have already got a paid for subscription.
