Scandinavian meet - July 31st 2010 12:30 - Karlstad
Hi everyone!
There has been talk of trying to get a Scandinavian (+finland and any others that want to join of course I invite everyone to start posting suggestions for sites where it would be possible to do this, preferably a nice place with some sort of sleeping arrangement and entertainment, and during what time period we can get people to show up. I suggest that we try to keep the location somewhere in the south eastern parts of Norway or western parts of Sweden in order to get people to drive there. Svinesund has been used before, and might be recycled. I also want to invite the Scandinavian and Nordic members to join the Scandinavian social group here on Civinfo. Would be nice to have a place where we could keep in touch and up to date on more local tings. |

I'm wondering i we could reserve parts of the Liseberg carpark one evening to have the meet, then go have some fun in the roller coasters afterwards?

Sure, would be nice, but unfortunately it will be difficult for me to take on much west of Västerås or Örebro.

Problem with putting it to far east in Sweden is getting Norwegians to drive over there. For me Svinesund is 600 km, Örebro 824. About the same for amronno and J. Derrek Riddell. Considering the road conditions i think we have the hardest route of the ones living in the southern parts of Norway, Sweden, Denmark or Finland.
You are thinking of just a daytrip Orschild? |

We did Svinnesund last time as mentioned.
This was a 1000 km drive for me, and the Norwegian part of the drive was great fun, but not quick progress. I think we have a fair concentration of members around Stockholm, could this be an option? It would allow for members from Finland to take the "drinking boat" over. |

A daytrip I could do without much planning, but maybe I could do something more. But it mostly depend on timing. Could possibly arrange it so I can use the time to also visit some of the company's clients

Stockholm would be a 1000 km drive for me, about 975 for the two others mentioned if they come. About 12 hours drive +- for speed limits and traffic. Everything is doable, but for that i would probably have to plan for 2 days each way. Maybe meet up with other Norwegians half way and drive on together.
The good thing as you say is that the Fins can get over pretty easy. But i would like to see what others say before i decide at least. Even better it would be if we got suggestions for more accurate meeting places. |

How about something like Örebro or Karlstad?
That's kind of in the middle... No idea about good venues there though. |

Karlstad would suit me fine! If everybody agreed upon that location, I (and several other meet members, if interested) could have stayed overnight at my summer house further up north in the county. (near Sysslebäck) Last edited by amronno; 26th April 2010 at 14:45. |

I'm starting to see this in my head. A big white beautiful old mansion with a huge lawn around it, long road leading up to it lined with trees. Amronno standing there with the BBQ ready, Civics lined up on the front lawn, all nicely polished sparkling in the sun.
Am i just getting carried away here or? |

I'm so sorry Ths, but I have to disappoint you! ![]() There is not such a thing as an old mansion there, just an old little house from the 50's with a certain lack of maintenance, especially on the exterior. I just bought the house last october/november and there has been cold weather and snow there almost since then. Neither is there a huge lawn around it, nor an avenue of trees leading up to it! I don't even have an outdoor gas grill, so one of you guys have to bring along one it there's going to be some BBQing... However, there is a (not so well kept) lawn there, also there is space enough for quite a few civic's parked up on the property, so at least that won't be a problem... So, to answer your question Ths, yes - Unfortunately you got a bit carried away there, but at least it was fun as long as it lasted.... |

Karlstad is good for me, I'm only 300 km away
I'm filling the Civic up with my missus and luggage, heading for Italy most of june... In july and the start of august, my work is usually very time consuming with the majority of my colleagues having holiday... Second half of august is usually better, but that's maybe too late for you guys? Maybe we're not even talking of "summer" then... |

In theory I'm free from 18/6 to about 12/8. Main job is teacher so long holiday. Second job as bowling alley manager might take some time in there somewhere, but i can plan around that mostly.

I'm up for it - not too fussed about a long trip either - I drove to Stockholm last year and I just made the Journey part of the holiday ...
As I remember it, it was nearer 14 hours than 12 (I over-nighted in Oslo) - with the slow bit of course in Norway ! - gets better near Oslo and fine all the way from there to Stockholm ... But, anywhere in between would be fine as well ... As for timing, I'm flexible, so if late August was the choice, then fine by me ... |

Karlstad would work, but timing is the issue. It is a 4-5 hour drive for me so it could theoretically be possible with a day trip, although I might be able to visit some friends on the way too.
