Summer meeting in Finland?

Would anyone be up for a gathering in Finland this summer?

I'll be driving up there from France, and stay in the Turku archipelago (Nagu-Nauvo to be precise) roughly between July 20 and August 20. I think that could be an awesome place for a Civic meeting!

Well I would be interested in meeting somewhere (central) maybe Tampere/Lahti/? will be free at the end of June-mid July, and also the start of August.

Not a huge turnout so far, huh? How many Civinfo members are there in Finland anyways?

C'mon, isn't anyone else visiting this beautiful country? Perfect in summer. It gets warm, but never too hot, the sun (almost) never goes down. And did I mention the roads? Small, well-kept roads winding through forests, with blue lakes (or sea, if you're in the archipelago) in the background. Stunning scenery, really. Perfect for joyful rides in a Civic! Traditional sauna, swimming, fishing, hiking, sailing, kayaking... Awesome food (think freshly caught smoked fish, rye bread, wild mushrooms and berries... yummy). And beer, of course. Anyone...?

Im from here
But ofcourse not many new generation civ's been sold in Finland so maybe that's the reason for low civinfo members from here... But a somekind of meeting sounds good.

Well, I'll be in Nauvo rougly between Jul 20 and Aug 20. I actually inherited an old family estate there and I (kind of struggle to) maintain it by renting out nice little cottages over the summer, next to the sea (with amenities ranging from access to sauna to wireless Internet). So there's ample room to house anyone who would be interested to come and share some "Civic-time". There are some nice places for photo shoots, barbecues, etc. Roads on the island are nice for just driving around too.

Well, I live in Rovaniemi (although I spent more than 20 years in the Heidelberg area in Germany) and would be interested in a meeting. But unfortunately my summer vacation will end on July 18th and I'll have to spend the next three weeks in a booby hatch. (Mind you not as a patient but rather as a doctor... )

Jore, to be honest I did not know what a booby hatch was until I just Googled it

Rovaniemi is pretty far away from Nauvo. Actually it seems pretty far away from ahem... just about anywhere! I don't suppose you would be willing to come down for perhaps just a weekend, after your summer vacation?

What about hurricane or rawwu, would you be interested in coming to Nauvo?

Actually Nauvo is pretty far away from everywhere else as well. I live in the south east so would prefer a more central location, but let's see what other think. Any other locations anybody?

Guys, if you scheduled it for late July or early August, I'd add it to my trip to Karlstad, for the "Scandinavian meet" ...

JDR (and FWH and anyone else from across the sea for that matter), it would be awesome if you want to come as well to Finland. From that perspective I would argue that Nauvo is probably an optimal location, as it's just a (very pleasant) hour's drive away from the harbor in Turku, where the Silja or Viking Line ferry (which in and of itself is a very pleasant experience) would take you from Stockholm.

As for the date, well nothing's decided yet. If the Karlstad meet is scheduled for July 31st, then we could make it a couple of days after. If it works better for local Finns to come on a weekend, we could organize the "formal" meet on the following weekend and anyone who wants to come before and just chill in the meantime could do that. There are lots of things to do in the Turku archipelago. I'll already be there, on site, anyways.

That would be really "cool" - it's my vacation time, so I'm flexible - been to Sweden and Denmark several times, but never to Finland ...

p.s. - I'm actually Scottish, so don't even consider a Finnish drinking contest !!! ...

No doubt.

There is a little restaurant on one of the islands (have to check if I can find which one) that is specialised on ribs, but does the best Irish coffee I have ever tried.

There's another place that does some of world's best burgers..

Well, despite appearances, I'm actually from Sweden. But that doesn't mean I will pick you up on that drinking contest. It doesn't mean either that I won't enjoy any kind of drinking companionship though

Gosh, I have been coming to these islands for as long as I can remember but I couldn't tell you where those places are. Unless you mean this one: Restaurant Buffalo. There is an awesome Viking theme restaurant in Turku. I go there every summer since I discovered it. It's become a tradition.

Trust me, you haven't seen it all until you've seen the Finnish archipelago!! If you're married and/or bring kids with you, it's an awesome place to visit too.
