New server

Some of you may have noticed that we have had the occasional slowdown and on the odd occasion a total stoppage. This is because we are on a server that is heavily loaded, and sometimes overloaded.

Tonight we are moving to a nice new fast underpopulated box (at some expense, but paid for by supporters* and Google ads) where I hope we'll get a faster and more reliable service.

It may take a little while for the DNS servers to update themselves, so you may not see the site again until morning.

*Thank you!!!

For "rest of the world" people this is 21:15 UK time (GMT).

Indeed.

After the move it will take time for the DNS to update, but the site might be available at http://91.198.165.131/~civinf00 but then other bizarre issues may mean that that link wont work.

It was meant to be a simple job - and everything was done by 2230. But the new box was configured in a different way, and it has taken a while to reconfigure it into a working form.

I think everything is back to normal now.

It's a Dell 2950 quad Xeon, 2Gb, and a pile of SCSI discs in Raid 5.
