Tim
you can, but from memory it's not cheap.

when doing this mod a while back some owners went the whole hog and ordered the bits from the Type R, but the prices soon added up

See above. There are about 5 clips on the back of the silver bit, bottom one circled in blue, one either side above arrows and two along top [i think]. Use something like an old credit card [incase you bend it], in the area marked by arrows, and then it just pulls off. Five minutes tops!

What do you think of these then.
Universal fit and looks very soft leather.
Would the elasticated base cause a problem, when re- fitting the plastic trim.?
£12 on Ebay.

Avoid.
I had a look at one of those and the quality is bad. Although they claim to be good soft leather they actually feel like plastic. The top of them is also really poor and does not grip the stick properly (the whole is way too big).
The elasticated fit is also wrong for the civic.

To be honest every time you see the words "universal fit" a good rule of thumb is to walk away.

Really poor.

Don't you think the gaitor looks old fashioned - 70's style? Or is that the look you're going for?

The standard Honda 'ball joint' look seems much trendier. Just my opinion.

You are correct in my opinion... Purchased & fitted the gaiter and took it off after a few mins as I prefer it as it is...

Are well, spare gaiter to go on ebay I guess..

Cheers,

Bob...

I like the traditional look of a leather gear gaiter.
I changed mine and think it looks better.
However, I can see why some would not want to.
How much leather is in the Space Shuttle??

Well I've got 43k miles on mine and the silver ball around the bottom of the gear stick shaft is showing distinct wear to the paint (it's actually a black plastic painted silver). Another great Honda "quality feature".

I wanted to hide this.

Besides, I think the ball & stick arrangement looks really cheap to me, especially with the monstrosity of the original gear stick stuck on top of it, the Honda "sports stick" looks even worse. They both look straight out of the early learing center.
"Trendy" is never a word I would want accociated with it, let alone one I would apply.

Still, isn't it great that opinions vary and we can all own the car we want

That would be for heated seats if you have leather... Think you can also have this with cloth seats if the car was purchased in a much colder country...

Cheers,

I did this some time ago with a Type R gear knob and a second hand Audi TT gaiter.
I wasnt happy with it so sold it. But you get the idea:
