Where to find automatic darkening side and back windows?

Hello!
yesterday I saw on the road a Maybach car with automatic darkening side and back windows. You can regulate the level of darknening on your side and back windows. They look really fantastic, nothing common with usual tinting. I know that this is a kind of an exclusive glass specially made for luxury cars like Maybach, Phaeton, etc.
Do you know where I can find a copmany which can individually produce such glass?
I heard also that there is a manufacturing in Dresden (Germany) where such glass is being produce. If you know anything about this company and how is possible to contact it or any other company which can produce such glass, please let me know!

Many thanks in advance to everybody.

I think there is an LCD element to these windows and by applying current they become dark.

I assume very expensive and I have not seen any aftermarket supply of this.

This would cost about the same as a new Civic .

My father has wrked with stuff like this, for the MOD (if you walked through with the wrong clearance all areas sealed and the office windoiws automatically darkened to prevent access to classified info) and it is hideously expensive (remembering your basic Maybach (if such a thing exists) starts around 250-500K mark, depending upon which model you choose).

As FWH says it is similar ot LCD (liquid crystal display) however it is termed LCG (Liquid crystal glazing), It is similar in that when a current is passed through it, molecules become 'animated' and align to create to our perception solid black tinting. The other point to note, the Civic has nowhere near enough engine/battery, as the glass is a fair bit heavier and the extra drain would mean the battery would have even more ot cope with, then the glass would need to be bespoke to the car, another expense.

Thanks for replies. All links you gave are about architecture glass. It is straight and doesn't fit to cars as in cars windows are not straight. These companies can not produce such glass.
I know that it can cost like a new Civic but I really want to find such windows. Maybe you heard about some other companies which can produce electrochromic glass for cars?

It's pretty much bespoke, and I doubt these company's own the patents for vehicle glass.

Hi ya kujul ..

Welcome to the madhouse

Civic's in Russia?

Are you really allowed to enjoy yourself there?

Have you gone down the route of finding out if the Photochromic coating put on reading glasses can be applied to vehicle windows?

http://www.transitions.com/aboutcompany/history.aspx

'Transition' lenses are one of the trade names.

Will have a look myself in the meantime!

Hi Charles Harding!
Yes, we have many Civics in Russia. My country is a very big market for Honda. Russian also like very much old bodies of Civics. For instance, one of my Civics is 9 years old and from UK). I am doing now an increadible tuning of it, later will public some pictures.

As for the transition lenses, thank's for your idea. But I guess this glass by itself differes from the glass which can be installed in cars. What do you think?

I found that there are two leaders on the glass for cars market in the world. They are Sait-Gobain www.saint-gobain-sekurit.com and Pilkington www.pilkington.com But I found that they can do such glass now only for roofs. And on the web-site of Saint-Gobain it's written that they are going in the nearest future to launch electrochromic glasss for side and back windows.
In the nearest future....
But then who already produces this glass for Maybach and Bentley?

Quite possible that either one of them are doing a limited production to a few customers before they offer it to the open market.

Not being silly if someone is coming to you and paying you X amount of dosh to make the glass bespoke for thme, it's unlikely you'll be able to, or want to offer it to everyone, I know if I owned Maybach, and/or bentley I wouldn't want anyone else having the idea, as it loses it exclusivity if it's put on every car.....

It probably currently has a price which means that not "every" car will have it anyway.

Found a reference here:
about the electro-active glass roof on the Maybach (turns from transparent to milky white opaque) - apparently the roof is 20.000 euro. Approximately one civic worth of glass
