You pose an interesting question there orel..Simple answer, if nobody else knows, is ask your dealer.
If it was me, I'd fit a Type S or Type R Grill...I prefer the look
(BTW..I like the new perspex grill)

I'll swap you my Perspex grill for your new model grill. It is in perfect shape.

If the New TypeS grill 09' fits the previous models i think the new 09' grill fits it too, would be neccessary to see the brackets of new one, if they are the same as TypeS 09' grill, it will fit any model i think

The old Perspex grill will not work with the auto gearbox
the reason for the new style grill is to give better airflow to keep
the auto box happy. If you change the grill and have issues ie with the engine and gearbox overheating I would think Honda will not want to know.

One of the dealers may like to confirm or disagree with this.

The new 'S' grill is quite smart.

Yes it is, and the price I saw at my Honda dealer isn't too bad either. I think I will be getting that one

As far as I know, the Type-S-grill has a closed backside, just like the old perspex one. And surprise: I have the new 1.8 manual, and as far as i can see, the "pignose" grill also is closed on the backside!? So maybe the auto-model grill is still different with an open backside, like the type-r one?
So maybe the best option for extra cooling would be the type-r grill...

Confusing, eh?

There are two versions, one for the manual and one for the automatic. Check the Honda website for spare parts. They will both fit, but the auto version has an open back for increased airflow.

Just came in from changing the 09 perspex for the 08 version. The 09 perspex grill has two openings in the back, which are closed by screwed-on plastic covers on my manual transmission 1.8. So Honda was at least semi-clever, as the parts are not really different, they only have to leave those covers off on the auto model.

So everything goes, at least for the manual shifter.

You should write a 'How to', it would prove very useful for other forum members wanting to do the same thing.
