Wind Deflectors

Ok, so this may sound stupid as it says on the tin....but what do they actually do and why do so many people have them?

looks cool, and can also open the window a bit without rain coming in and deflects a little bit of wind

Does that mean you don't get any wind actually coming in to the car?

Fitted my heko ones last week they look smart and it means when its a hot day i can have both windows down without the wind gushing through the car. Well worth the money but the only con is they slightly restrict your vision especially at junctions but if your a short a*se it wouldn't be a problem.

Are they all different? Which ones are recommended for the minimal and almost unoticeable look?

Most go for the heko's off ebay cheap and very quick delivery. they come with double sided tape on and clips to squeeze in the window frame. Some people say they move and slip after a while but a little tip if you were to get them is to forget the clips don't use them just clean the inside of your frame preferably with some watered down white spirit or just some kitchen roll then apply some decent half inch double sided tape all the way round your edge of the deflectors not to close to the curve else you will see it when the window is up. Peel tape backing off then bend and push into position do your window up to see if the rubbers are in position if not window down and give them a wiggle, once your happy with the way they look with the window up and nothing looks out of place LEAVE your windows up for at least 2 days to allow the tape to stick. My mate did his like this lasted a year and still going and his sons have lasted 2yrs and still holding, just don't go through car washes.

I used the clip and replaced the tape they use with 3m tape and mine haven't moved in 3 years. Clips are there for a reason

Clips are only there for extra grip they put pressure against the deflector and your frame to keep them in place and as being bare metal clips i wouldn't want my window edge closing onto these constantly also pushing clips up there means you are shortening the closure so your windows won't be 100% closed won't be by much but enough. Most people i have spoke to leave the clips out for this reason alone. You will probably find its the tape thats kept them up for this long without the tape the clips are pointless and the deflectors would of dropped by now.

Might go and remove the clips tomorrow then thanks Pal, I did use 3m tape instead of the stuff that came with them

If it's been 3yrs i'd leave them in, i don't want to be reading a post next week saying your deflectors have fell out and it's because you listened to me, if your getting a hissing from the wind then i would remove the clips so your window will shut but if everything is fine then leave be, as the saying goes "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

No point, mate. I didn't even use any tape either. They've been there for nearly a year and don't budge.

I just used the tape on them and no clips, you have to bend them to get them in so they wont just 'fall out'

I used clips on my Hekos and have had to take them off less than 6 weeks after installing due to them dropping on the driver's side. Its like it deformed in the heat of the sun and popped itself out along the central section. The tape seemed pretty weak but up until recently they were stuck solid. I'm going to get some 3M tape and have another go. They're a good looking and simple mod so well worth doing.
