Vinyl Wrapping beginner
I just bought some bubble free carbon fibre vinyl today from eBay.
I didn't buy a lot as I wanted to test it out before spending much on it. What would be the easiest thing to attempt in my 8th gen? I was thinking the compartment just above the gear stick but thinking it would need to be pulled out prior to wrapping it. What would you suggest I try first? Looking for something fairly simple and easy to access. |

Hey hapzuk
I'm looking forward to some of the guys who had done this themselves post on here. From the Carbon Fiber Interior post, seems that people take out/off the panels, wrap the sheeting over it, then replace them. By the sounds of things, take care around the holes where dials and buttons come through as they seem to stick since I imagine the holes are fractionally smaller. How much of the wrapping are you thinking of putting on? Personally im thinking along the lines of the panels above the steering rack where the air con controls are, the area around the gearstick and the drawer thing above that. But i could get carried away and so the door handles (inside), the H on the grill etc etc etc :-S |

get a friend to help. I did my bonnet on my own and it took me about 4 hours, it has a few imperfections that I reckon I could have sorted with another pair of hands.

I tried doing the plastic around the gear stick, I had four attempts with the wrap that I had.
Made a mess on all 4 attempts |

hi mate, i wrapped a few thing now and believe that the quality of the vinyl helps.. i usually stick to the 3m stuff as its very easy to work with
i wrapped my roof a few days ago and it took about 1 half hours.. no bubbles at all |

I had two goes then I just gave up. On both attempts I got about 2mm of grey showing. I left it on the car for about two weeks then I removed it as it was annoying me lol. I ordered a large amount and I used the remains to wrap my mac and some picture frames.

Yes taken it off, I still have enough for about 3 attempts so next time I'm bored that's probably what I'll be doing.

were you heating the vinyl ? if you apply heat via a hairdryer it makes it a little stretchy and can be gently pulled over the edges for a better finish

Yes I did apply heat, I think I left it too short along the bottom. Maybe if I keep a little more vinyl length I would have been able to tuck it in.

I've done a little bit of a better job so far, just don't know how to tackle the middle part. Each time I've cut a small circle I seem to tear it when folding it over in the middle. |

During my attempts I did buy 3M wrap which was much better quality but I destroyed it. It was better to feel, but comes at a higher cost. |
