door pinching rear arch

Hi folks,

while doing the Type R conversion to my 5d, I noticed that one of the rear arches is constantly being "pinched" by the door edge as in the pic below.
Do you have any suggestions to solve this? (unfortunately, holding the arch in a different position is not applicable here due to the shape of the rear body panel)

thanks

here's a pic of the area... (it isn't my car)

Makes no difference I glued mine on and I don't get this?.

If all the holes line up then this shouldn't happen.

We need pics of your car and close ups of the arch.

here's a pic.
the arch lines up correctly... comparing the two doors though, this one sits a little too low (just about 2-3mm lower with respect to the other side)
I though I might have to work on the door bolts and hinges
excuse the car being dirty, but I was painting my brake calipers

The bolts that hold the doors on are "shoulder" bolts so there is no adjustment.

If you move the keeper on the inner q-panel that the door closes onto up a small bit at a time then pull the door upwards so it still shuts ok it will prob give you enough to open the gap enough for it to miss the arch.

that's a very good idea indeed... you mean the metal ring that the door locks onto, right?

nope.. no crash at all ... it might just be an imperfection or, most likely, it could be due to the mismatch between the type R and 5dr arches...

There is no mismatch between the type R and 5dr arches, Are you 100% sure there has been no damage to the car?.

Looks like the arch has been pushed up?

I own also a 5 door, and mine is fine, so there's something wrong with your car I think, It can't be a mismatch then

no damage, this issue came only with the type r conversion, when a difference became noticeable between the two rear doors: one sits a little higher than the other (despite both lock perfectly).
it's the camera angle: compared to the 5 door arch, the 3 door one has an edge all around, that most people tend to push inside while bonding it.
the arch then sits a little lower compared to the v-shaped bottom of the q-panel, and this makes the arch stay flush with the door. this however leaves a tiny wider gap between the door and the arch along the circular portion of the door. (you can compare it with the gap by the b-pillar)

in this pic you can see the arch being pushed inside, with its edge disappearing behind the door (at about half its height)

Xa4cornelis, your car is one example where, due to the clips you used, the arch stays in a more "natural position" i.e. without being pushed down/inside and therefore without leaving the gap i mentioned above (on a black car, this would be even less noticeable anyway)

Yep, move it a couple of millimetres at a time, if you feel the door is not shutting properly physically lift it from the back.
