An awesome day....

This is a thread to thank to Paul, Ben, Neil, Lou and Seano for an amazing day.

I live up north in frigid Scotland and when the news arrived that i needed to travel South to England-shire for a work-related event, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to swing by TDi- North and get my wee monster mapped on their dyno.

Unfortunately, due to some crossed wires, when i finally did turn up that Friday morning, Neil, Ben, Lou and Sean were loading up the supercharged EP3 and Paul was at Oulton Park!...turns out, the guys were running tests on the car in preparation for the 1st round of Time Attack 2011 at Oulton Park the next day. My dejection must have shown, for the guys made a few calls and then asked if i wanted to come along with them to Oulton Park for the day...Do one-legged ducks swim in circles?

Followed the trailer to Oulton Park and met Paul and Dave. What followed was several pax laps in Paul's FN2....what a machine! That thing can go round corners without a hint of wanting to let go. What was impressive was that in terms of suspension mods, it had the -15mm springs, a full FRS, and Toyo tires...it brought home to me again the potential of the car and how basic measures can make the most of the relatively simple setup of the rear suspension. Then again, i bet the Wavetrac LSD made a difference as well.

Spent the rest of the morning and the afternoon checking the rest of the monsters running shakedown tests in preparation for the the next day. Cars that stuck in my mind...K-sports' Evo, an Alfa 156 and a matte black CSL.

Later in the day, Ben casually asks if i wanted a pax lap in the supercharged EP3 they were running the next day....holy cow! That car was/is awesome! One whole EP3 of stripped out, roll caged, supercharged K20 goodness....yummy. This time, there were no compromises to creature comforts. This car had been modified to go very fast, turn very tight and stop very suddenly. And it did all those things with a frantic urgency that made you realise again why you love cars and all things engine related. Bravo, guys!

And after a full day of prepping the race car, Paul and Ben drove back to the workshop with me and worked on my humble FN2 and did a top notch job. The car runs a lot smoother, and pulls so much better from low down in the rev range all the way to the limiter...all this, with better fuel economy too. And while i was there, i had a wee guided tour of all their cars while Paul worked on mine. Brilliant machines, all of 'em.

All in all, a day that might have gone very wrong turned into a brilliant one at the track with a bunch of welcoming, friendly, petrolheads. I was very glad to have met the TDi North guys and i am impressed and really appreciate the effort the guys put into their work and customer service. Rest assured, i will be back....Thanks again, guys.

Lavan

P.s. Wish i had the forethought to snap a couple of pics, but was too distracted by the automotive porn on display...These are pics of the racing EP3 the next day.
