Been too busy to get balls deep into looking further into this to be honest. Plus other things happening which mean its at the bottom of my needs, im sure if someone pushes for this it could happen though. There's a lot of customers that would put their names down instantly for a big fat CAI

Yeah did see this and did a great big reply and as I went to post it internetz died and I lost it all!
![]() Right. Big custom intake. No we aren't doing it now. After lots of testing we found there wasn't any gains to be had from it so was pointless going any further as the markets pretty well flooded with different types anyway so no point re-inventing the wheel. I had made up a 3" diameter intake pipe that went to an HKS powerflow filter with velocity stack mounted behind the foglight which is removed so was able to benefit from the full effect of the stack, wasnt getting hot overspill from the radiator which other kits get with the filter sitting higher as well. Downside is I did have to move the battery. What I found is that compared to the other intakes it had better intake pressure's and when tuned to attain the required AFR I was adding fuel. It made better numbers "On the Dyno" than anything else I tested. However. When tested on the road the pressures and AFR were unchanged. We then compared this with the Mugen intake which on the dyno made less peak power and didn't pull quite as much fuel but on the road I am having to add fuel and the pressures were the same as the open cone setup. Conclusion is that if you want to make dyno numbers go with a big open cone pointing forwards without the foglight. In reality its no better on the road than the Mugen.... plus you don't need to re-locate the battery. We are still running the Mugen intake on our Time Attack car which tells it all really. we can run what we like as powers not limited and we are out to win so if there was any advantage in running something trick we would be. On another note and still connected with intakes last week we were doing a lot of testing on a brand new Atom3 to try and improve on the system they have as stock with interesting results. We tried different lengths of intake and different diameters along with bigger throttle bodies and we found that a 3" pipe just over 18" long with a dual element filter worked best reduced into a stock throttle body with the RRC. Having too bigger intake is just like having a massive cone right onto the end of the throttle body and it results in a big loss in midrange due to reduced airflow speeds. We are getting in one of the new Skunk2 intakes shortly for testing which is supposed to fit without battery relocation so will give that a go and give feedback. |

Yeah thats about as good as it gets on the road with the stock motors.
How you getting on with the J35? I fitted 2 this week and they both hunt really badly as though there is a vacuum leak. Tried re-learn several times but no good. Swapped back to stock and even Skunk2 one and they run mint.

Whilst on the subject is there anyway to improve my set up, Im thinking a smoother bore hose, and increasing the outlet of the tegiwa box to 3.5inch and again a smooth 3.5 inlet pipe to a bigger TB.
Would this do anything |

Have a look at that Meercat intake pipe. The stock ones ribbed for a reason. Like intake manifolds arent dead smooth. I wouldnt go much wider just smooth the flow out.
