Help required in deciding on leather interior
Been looking at the pictures of Bassa's leather which in my view looks stunning in a blueish silver car. Now nearly decided to go ahead. Been in touch with Transform (Craig Simnet - the MD) who quoted £981 fitted in Rotheram. Sending me samples of the leather used on Bassa's car. I am wondering about the stitching and the perforated centre pieces in sky blue. Perhaps smooth leather and less prominent stitching would be better. Any thoughts people. I have attached a picture of Bassa's for ease of reference. Suspect I will struggle to better Bassa's choice.

I would recommend the perforated seats, and in a Blueish Silver car I think it looks great.
PS: Why don't you PM Bassa and ask him how it's wearing now that it's had a year or so's use. |

Have sent him PM but notice he hasn't been on forum since Sept. Have asked Pottsy to send him E Mail asking him to contact me. Agree would love to hear how it is wearing and if he would do anything different if he was starting again. Hopefully he will get in touch. Unlikely that I will do anything different.

Allan or any other leather afficionado - help!
Quote:
Allan - I would welcome your input. Got the swatches today and as you have mentioned on an earlier post it is really hard to make the choice. Like you I feel that as getting bespoke want something a little different but really don't want to be disappointed with the result. Regarding Bassa's choice the sky blue swatch is much darker than I expected and put with the Charcoal Grey we didn't like the result. If the effect could be the same as in Bassa's pictures then yes I would go for it. Interesting to see in his pictures that the plastic trim looks grey when it really is black so gives an indication and I note he did say that effect was darker in real life. Our current thought (may well change) is that the 2 colours of plastic trim are black and grey so bolsters etc. in black with middle seat facings in grey with perforations. Can you confirm your perforations are the smallest of the 3 choices - think they are from the pictures. However a little concerned if it will look OK or whether I should play safe with all black like yours which does look great. How is it wearing after some 16months -miles? We thought about charcoal grey instead of black but as trim black doesn't seem right. Silver stitches whatever I think. Oh! Oh! decisions decisions - help!!!!!!!!!! |

Well this is all part of the fun!! (Sorry, did I say fun!).
Firstly you don't want anything too different as it could affect the resale in years to come. Secondly you don't want anything too pale as it may not wear very well. Mine is as fresh as when it was installed, but my car does not have much use apart from my wife and myself (kids have long since left home!). I have small perforations, which I believe is their standard. You could consider a DARK BLUE all over with LIGHT BLUE contrasting stitching, BUT; as the main facia area is BLACK you may feel it will not look right as it could clash. I considered several combinations, including BLACK SIDES with DARK RED centres and DARK RED STITCHING. I settled for ALL BLACK with SILVER STITCHING, and I'm very pleased I kept it simple as (I think) it looks great, matches the facia and seat back centres, centre tunnel, door cards (only the centre that is currently velour is trimmed in leather - the remainder stays black, as do your seat belts!). Have a look at the posted photos, hold the leather swatches against your car both inside and out, ask TL if they have any photos they could email you. You won't get much sleep tonight, will you. Oh, decisions, decisions! Good luck. PS: Remember, your carpets are BLACK as well!! Last edited by allan40alt; 24th January 2008 at 22:59. |

PPS:....have a look at my interior here (#1): Bespoke Leather Club
....and at dubya's interior further down (#12). You can clearly see the area that is left in the original BLACK. Don't forget as well, the seatbelts are BLACK, and they will be resting against the leather. If you are happy with the BLACK interior you currently have, then why not play it safe and have, well, BLACK. The perforations really give a nice look to the seats and match well with the SILVER contrasting stitching. Oh, and one big bonus factor, that wonderful aroma of real leather every time you open the door. I'm only just over the stage of just going to the car to open the door to inhale......oh no, I'm not over it...must go and get a fix!! PS:...if you haven't already got them, the stainless steel door garnish looks so much better than the black plastic ones which you can see clearly in dubya's picture 3, #12. Another point to remember is that the leather TL use feels softer and more supple that a standard Honda leather interior (I don't think the Honda leather is perforated either). Also, the seat sides are full leather, I believe the Honda seats have imitation PVC leather sides.
In my opinion the TL seats are altogether better finished and more comfortable. |

Hi surferjr & allan40alt.
Have not posted for ages since I no longer have my Civic. Due to too many irritating niggles I decided to part company with it and have absconded to 'the other' camp and now have a Toyota Avensis 2.2 diesel. (did try the Auris ) With regard to the retro fit leather, I would highly recommend TL, they did a superb job. My choice of charcoal with perforated mid blue facings and silver stitching really came about since I wanted a change from plain black. While wishing to lighten the car's interior without sacrificing practicality by going too light I was somewhat guided by TL, with of course, the car's blueish silver in mind. It was a choice I never regretted and although the car was sold with only a low mileage it proved practical, looked great and remained just good as the day it was fitted. It is a difficult choice to make and my advice would be go ahead as long as you stick with something tasteful and avoid the garish. To coin a phrase, at the end of the day, it is down to personal choice. You are probably now more confused than ever - wishing you luck with your final decision. |

Thanks first to Bassa for putting in a special appearance. It was pictures of your choice that first started the leather bug and I really liked the result. However as I have said above when I saw the swatches I wasn't so struck. However when looking at the samples from outside the car where you can see the blue colour then it again seems more appealing. At the moment first choice (just) would be black with seat facings light grey with perforations and silver stiching but wonder about the light colour on most used bit and whether it will look right. The silver edge to the standard seat looks ok with the black and some trim is this colour so perhaps this will be the choice. However in the middle of last night I was firmly fixed on black like Allan's. I know I would not be disappointed with all Black but it would be so nice to be a bit different without screwing the whole job up. I have looked at ever picture I can find on this site that shows leather. Can't stand the thought that every time I go to the car that I cringe and regret my choice - never mind effect on resale value. Bassa, if you reappear, what advice did Transform give you? Allan did they stear you anyway? Input from daughter and Mrs so far is the Black and silver. More opinions will be sought and considered. Unlikely to get this done before end of March/April as will incorporate a motoring hol for a few days as we are on the south coast and a fair way away - good excuse for decent drive!
Well thanks again guys your input is very much appreciated |

They did help with some photos of others they'd done, and they showed me some that they had made, ready for fitting, when we visited. This was in case I had second thoughts, doubt you could change your mind if you made a selection that had to be specially made though!
I had thought about having the 'H' logo in the front seats, but I was pleased I hadn't chosen that when I saw it. It would suit a Type R, especially with the RED seat centres, but not the 5 door. One combination I think would have looked good in my NHB was the BLACK with DARK RED centres. Women have a good idea of what to co-ordinate and what would look classy without looking brash; perhaps you should listen to them. PS: I've just been on the TL website and looked at the colours; Sky Blue TF66 looks as if it will go well (on it's own) maybe with a lighter Blue contrasting stitching, but how would it look with the Black facia and Black seat backs etc? Did you get a sample of Sky Blue? Last edited by allan40alt; 25th January 2008 at 18:40. |

Hi again Allan. Regarding the blue my thoughts basically are that the criteria should be to match the interior which as you point out is predominately BLACK and more BLACK with bits of silver/grey. Hence my thoughts black with grey which is the nearest to car interior colour. Do you have any honest thoughts on this combination i.e Black with grey on centres of seats . I am also aware of the risks in ignoring the feminine intuition especially wife and daughter!! They would not let me forget a poor choice if I went my own way. Going the blue route I think is more risky as there is no match inside the car. As to changing my mind on arrival at Transform - lets not go there -especially if getting special order. I think it has to be combination of Black and charcoal or light grey or just black like yours. Oh yours looks so good!! what will I do
I am going on Hols tomorrow for week so will continue to ponder. Also having probs with my talktalk (god help me ) broadband - hardly been working tonight - very frustrating. Thanks again for your input |

Not going to Gran Canaria next week are you?
Now, back to your problem. I feel that if you choose a 'two-tone' interior you could tire of it very quickly, especially if the centres are light and need a lot of cleaning. |
