I think if I was in your position I would go for the leather!!! total is £981 including VAT - know its 3 times what you've been quoted for fitting cloth covers but I think it would be worth it!

I think I'm doing myself out of some money here!!

All very easy to say if you have £981 to spare. I've not earned anything since April - oh the joys of self employed.

Wait until you're in a better position and go for the leather. You will regret getting cloth seats again as exactly the same thing could happen that spoiled your current covers....or buy lippy's old ones!

Ok, I think we've probably got a sale here - not sure on price tho - will do some research. Unless you have a price already for 'new' ones without the fitting? I'm sure we can come to an agreement. Will just have to make sure transform remove the covers as carefully as they can.

I may be employed but money doesn't exactly grow on trees!! so I do understand where you're coming from.

I was rather hoping for some nominal price along the lines of fifty quid or so. What were you thinking of?

There's an awful load of clips, bungs and other stuff I have to order to get them fitted and like all pieces of plastic and bent tin, they cost an arm and a leg. The trimmers told me they can't use the old ones they take off because they will be bent out of shape or are one-use only.

two colours is included - see excerpt below from an email from transform

"please note the price quoted is for any colour or colours, any contrasting colour of stitching as the leather colour is also the thread colour and any perforation, the only thing that will cost you extra is if you decide to go for embroidery ( logo etc). please feel free to give me a call on 01709 857160 or 07967973935 if you would like to discuss anything. regards Steve."

hope this helps

You can't really have a Type R Covered if you don't go for the embroidery, thats what puts the price up I'm still considering this, but who knows how long I will have the car tho

That's my only consideration, I know in two and a half years time when I come to change it, it'll make no difference to the value.

Still a good price though and still very tempted.

Split the difference? They want £300+ just to fit them (1.5 hours per seat) so any more and it's encroaching on leather territory.

Have they done it yet? Can I come and stroke your hide?

That's agreed then

Great! A day trip to Bournemouth.

Sandy beaches, shops full of things you don't want but never full of things you do. Bloody tourists everywhere and coaches pulled up disgorging foreign students from the wrong side of the bus. All wearing little back packs, who then amble across the road in crocodiles not taking any notice of the traffic.

Old ladies, pink and fluffy, smelling of Cuticura and violets. Old men driving Honda Civics at 21mph who then stop suddenly without warning.

Hey! Sounds just like Worthing.

By the way, they are black aren't they?

I'll have to become AOWAC who wants a car trimmer to fit my new seat covers.

AOWC,

foreign students - yes

sandy award winning blue flag beaches

quite a few civics, not driven slowly!!

also numerous clubs, casinos, bars - bournemouth is more known for this now than old folk!! people come from london and all over...

and, yes, black seats with the silver side trim- yours should be the same

I have a date for the fitting - Friday 27th - yippee!!!!

Only fly in the ointment is...... I am having to drive to Swansea for the fitting.

It turns out that Transform get this firm in Swansea to do jobs in Wales and south of England. No problem there as it is their business as well. Spoken to them several times and sound really friendly.

Because I did not order thru my dealer, they do not want to give up space in their garages as they are not making money (understandable) and weren't interested in my offer to 'rent' space, so I am going to the firm that is doing the fitment. They are just past Bassets Honda in Swansea.

AOWC - they have confirmed that the seat covers are 'salvageable' ie they will take off carefully and leave in my boot. Takes them 4 to 5 hours. Only thing they cannot remove are the head restraints as they are molded so I hope yours are OK.

I don't think they can remove the door card covers either.

Swansea? Lucky you! I have to drive to some god-forsaken place called Bournemouth to pick up my new covers.

Shame about the head rests, Mr Cancerstick who first owned my car has even managed to burn behind the passenger's head rest.

Just got a price to fit the 'new' covers. They want 1.5 hours each seat, 6 hours not 5. That's a lot more than their original guesstimate and approaching leather country. I've got to get the fitting price down to make it worthwhile.

And then I'll see your luxurious hide clad beastie and be soooo jealous.

Pictures of my Leather

Just got back from Swansea, and have taken some pictures. Some make the leather look grey but they are actually Sky Blue, the picture of the back seats (where you can see the boot is open) is near enough the actual colour. It's not 'Sky blue' in the sense most people thinkof, more like dark clouds. The stitching is in Ocean Blue wihich is quite bright but goes well.

Automotive Interiors in Swansea who did the fitting for Transform said that they thought the colour went very well with the car which is Blueish Silver. They have done a good job - the guy who did them was Rolls Royce trained. Took 6 hours, which we had to kill in a wet and windy Swansea, and included all the door cards but not the centre box top.
