Here's my list:-

Mini 1000 (in Russet Brown - Nice!) - Top first car!
Vauxhall Nova 1.3 SR - Brilliant and excellent handling warm hatch
Vauxhall Nova 1.4 SR As above and only got another SR because I couldn't afford the insurance for the 1.6 GTE
Rover 220 GSI - Didn't look anything special but very quick.
Subaru Impreza Turbo - Unbelievable traction and acceleration especially as it was running 246BHP.
VW Golf GTi 1.8 Turbo (mk4) Not that quick but very reliable
FN2 Type R GT - Just love the VTEC sound

Not a very long list considering I have been driving for 17 years but I have fond memories of all of them for different reasons.

il try and keep it short

Engine, cant say much at mo running in , but yes i do notice not having a turbo, normal driving was full of low rev punch, though not that the Type R has no torque just not as much. But its noticable at low revs, roll on the break in period. Very really had to change down to over take.

Gear box - so much slicker than the golf imo, far less travel

Steerring - for the little driving find the Type R more responsive

Ride - without a doubt the Golf is better here. Yes its firm but a nice german firm if you know what i mean, Type R is hard but not harsh. Though along with the seats and ride feels very direct, im getting to like it.

Interior - this is usually an area that german cars excell and the golf was no different but am pleasantly surprised by the quality of the plastics, switchgear etc in Type R, prefer the Type R cabin, golf had a grey feel, dash, seats, lining etc but this is all nice and dark

The dials, no comparison i sure u know which one wins

View - well golf excelled here on every aspect, rear sides front and rear window wiper

ICE - think the golf edged it here for beefiness, it had 10 speaker system too. But didnt play MP3 or WMA which was a shame.

Looks - golfs are great cars though subjective but this car is just so sexy imo. Its marmite for some i agree

Consumption i know will be more for the R, on normal driving was getting 35ish round town, combination of turbo and fsi engine i guess.

Will miss the golf if im honest, but will defo enjoy this car more.

Dont regret changing at all.

Lol mine is embarrasing for the wrong reasons,

Toyota Yaris 1.2 2 months

Audi A3 1.6 2 years

Bmw 320d 1 year

Volvo C30 2.0d 1 year

Honda Civic Type R GT 1 day!

The worst part is that their all my dads that Ive been insured on to drive. However the type R will be mine as I now have a salary which I can pay him back for it.

Btw the type R scares me like nothing else!

It was a long time ago so I am sure I missed a couple but here goes...

1958 Hillman Minx, bought in 1968, column shift, front bench seat, cost £120
Ford Fiesta (rusted to death)
Ford Escort (rusted to death)
Honda Accord with flippy up headlights
Honda Accord 2.0
Honda Accord 2.2 with 4 wheel steer (stolen for leather interior and written off)
Honda Accord 2.0 green replacement but lacking the extras of previous car
today Honda Accord 2.0 in Blue, 47000 miles and VERY sad to see it go for trade in

and tomorrow, hopefully...

Honda Civic 1.8 ES NHB

And in all those years with Accords only tyres, brakes, batteries and drivers window to replace.

But now is the time for a smaller, more economical car.

Well here goes

Fiat Punto Sporting - Awful Fell to bits
VW Golf GT TDi 110 - Nice Car still going well as Brother in Law bought it
VW Golf GT TDi 130 - Well stick with a winning formula????
Renault Laguna Privilege 1.9 DCI - Well seeing as it did 80,000 miles in 2 years (First Company Car) it wasn't that bad but did start to fall to bits
VW Golf 2.0 TDI - This was a friday afternoon car and put me off VW for life. Dealers were hopeless and it was in the garage about once a month did 77,000 miles in 2 years and was over the moon when the lease finished. It drank oil like crazy.
Honda Accord 2.2 EX Diesel - Cracking car still going strong it's done 30,000 miles in 18 months and hasn't skipped a beat and convinced me to buy a Honda when I hand it back to the company.

Then roll on 1st March when the Type R GT arrives and as I'm now office based mileage much reduced the drive to work will be so much fun

Toyota Yaris 1.2 2 months

Audi A3 1.6 2 years -

Was a brand new shape 2005 model -2 new clutches, new gearbox, powersteering failed whilst driving!,both front and rear windscreen wipers failed twice each (4 occasions).

Bmw 320d 1 year -

One of my dads company cars. Had no problems - although for a 24k vehical the handeling is poor, chassis feels like it flexes and twists over bumps although this maybe due to the bmw run flats.

Volvo C30 2.0d 1 year -

Excellent car to drive & own, with lots of torque (207 ft lb).The boot & boot lid is terrible. It only has 4 seats. Amazing on the motorway & over long distance (38mpg when driving with some go) done 16000 miles now. The ride is very similar to the type R (c30 uses 18'' atreus wheels).

Honda Civic Type R GT 1 week.

Gorgeous engine, great handeling, huge boot miles bigger than A3,sat nav is excellent, gearbox is very smooth, great on motorways & fast roads.
The ride is the firmest out of the cars ive driven and it delievers.
My only negatives are that there are far too many buttons in the ''cockpit'' as it seems to have become, oh and mpg is crap on short journeys around town (16mpg at the moment over 25 miles). Tho ive seen 35 on long motorway journeys.

@brawnr:
I hated the Golf. It was an ex-dem with everything on it bar leather. That included DSG (the semi-automatic gears) and SatNav. I think if I had got one without DSG it might have been different but in all honesty, I doubt it. The car was just too dull and detached. But its horses for courses and many people don't like the Civic. I didn't keep the GTI long at all, the new R was a breath of fresh air and it showed me what I really wanted from a car, so it made my mind up for me.

B& how would you rate the type R compared to the 350z? Are running costs much more for 350 & does it give you the same levels of adrenaline rush?

I test drove a dsg audi tt (old model) ** i bought the type R. I hate DSG its absolutly butterz.test drove the golf it was well put together, but very dull2 drive compared to type R.

@Marvintheandroid:
I loved the 350z. The only reason I got rid was because I needed the extra seats and some extra boot space for work. Running costs where fine really. Was getting about 26mpg. Parts and servicing where very cheep, in fact it cost less to get serviced than any of my Hondas and that was at a Nissan main dealer. I would have one again but it would have to be one of the newer ones with the extra bhp. I don't think it was ever as adrenaline filled as the type-r to drive though, as the power is delivered totally differently, but it was certainly entertaining.
