I've owned:
1981 Escort 1.3L - OK for 1st car
1985 Escort XR3i - rust bucket but fun
1988 Escort RS Turbo - I loved this car, typical Essex boy car!
1997 Peugoet 306 D Turbo - OK. Thats what you buy when you buy a house.
2007 Civic Type R GT - wicked, I'm back!

All in 22 years, makes me sound old! LOL

In 4-5 years:

Vauxhall Corsa 1.2l 16V Breeze (): Bodykit, Speakers, Stereo, debadge, the works (except the engine ). Went liek a rocket, for a small engined car, used ot embaress my mates with their 1.0l jobs (a couple of mates started driving after me, and got GTI's RS 's etc. all of them wrote them, hahahahahaha I won in the end).

BMW 316i: (last priduction run that got the 1.8 engine instead of the 1.6), M-tec spoiler, Clear lights, Schnitzer wheels (a grand a wheel!!!!!!!!!! What was the muppet that put them on thinking???). Think something may have been done to the engine as the car absolutely flew. Real pimp-mobile (actually say bat-mobile, sounds less 'hood').

BMW 520i SE: (2.2l model) M-tec interior, Xenon light upgrades, etc. etc. etc. One of my favourite 'slobbin cars' (great for poodling around in comfort), not worth the hastle to drive as a youngster (people get so jealous).

Now my Honda, never going back to BMW, they are actually quite annoying cars, probably because of the anal builders (whoever thought half the bits on them were good ideas???? Oh why have a standard cup holder when one that is sprung, and cost 50 quid to replace when it breaks putting a cup into it could be used!!!!!).

But its horses for courses and many people don't like the Civic. I didn't keep the GTI long at all, the new R was a breath of fresh air and it showed me what I really wanted from a car, so it made my mind up for me.
I got the same feeling when i tested the GTi before the CTR. Maybe it's because i had 2 VW Bora's before, it felt very similar sitting in the GTi.
I tested a demo fully loaded with DSG too and it was not a good feeling.

Deffo, I love the engine in the 1.8 so the 2.0 must be awesome (was annoyed I couldn't test drive one myself, had to let the dealer drive Won't buy a car I can't test drive myself).

I think you'll find thats a Honda thing......I tried to book a test drive for the CTR online but Honda won't let under 25's drive it However as I had aleady put the deposit down the Salesman let me take one out. I think some stick to the rules and others don't. They maybe make assumptions of who is actually wanting to buy the car and who wants to say 'i've driven one'

Now I know why you call yourself Disturbedbob. Driving that amount of Smart cars you would have to be disturbed. Smart Salesman prehaps as that seems to be the range, although they have changed the name from the City to the Fortwo haven't they?

I must have been lucky because i was allowed a test drive of a CTR off the forecourt, after a test of the 2.2 Diesel. The sales lady just give us the keys and said see you later.
Half an hour later when the fuel light flashed i returned with a big smile on my face after giving it a good thrashing

ORDERED my CTR there and then !!!!

The only reason I couldn't test drive a CTR at the time of placing the order wasn't because I was under 25, the guy didn't know what age I was when I was talking about it with him, but due to the fact that some plonker had been in several weeks before demanding a Type R and the Son of the guy who owns the company sold him the Demo one, so I had to wait 2 months until the one in the show room was registered on the 1st of September.

The dealer said he would have sold me the unregistered one in the showroom if it wasn't for the fact that A) They aint allowed to until a certain time as specified by Honda as they could be wrapped for it and B) It would leave them for another God knows how many months without a CTR for follk to test drive and thats not good for business. Which is true as I could have said, No thanks not until I've test drove one. But I said I would put the cash down if I got to test drive another Honda, so they gave me the 2.2 to take out and then called me when the CTR had been registered so I could take it out, thats how the demo only had 21 miles on the clock when I got my hands on it.

Oh and your 38 are you not? You may feel 21 but I doubt you look it hence the fact the dealer would have no issues in handing over the keys to you seen as your not under 25. My dealer didn't even care if I had a driving licence or not cause he said it wouldn't be him that would get into trouble with the Police it would be me lol!!! They had actually had a guy in who didn't have insurance for a car he was buying from them so they couldn't let him have it. Guy said in the 40 years of driving he had never had insurance or an MOT on a car. They asked how he got his road tax as you need this when you apply and the guy said his mate owned the Post Office that he went to and just sold him it without production of the documents. Guy was not happy that he couldn't get him car, but thats quite scary! Over 40 years without insurance and MOT's ffs!
