I had long drives in an NSX and an S2000 (classic car club) and knew I had to own a car with a powerful Honda VTEC engine and slick gearbox in it.

I've accidently had loads of cars!

These range from brillant (1993 Honda Prelude VTEC, 1991 Toyota Corolla GTI, 1995 Mazda 323F GLX), to the not so brilliant (1981 Chevrolet Caprice Classic, 2003 Vauxhall Corsa Elegance, 1989 Vauxhall Cavalier CDi).

I think I've had about 20 in total now, over 10 years of driving.

Absolutely loving the Type R, though. Except for occasional 3rd gear probs and the odd rattle, but can't win 'em all!

My Fiesta L was a 1978 and I got that in 1986 too. It was white with a black vinyl roof.

A mate of mine had an Alfa Sud and I was so jealous, it was really quick compared to my 957cc Fiesta.

Did yours dissolve into a pile of rust too, like his did.

Yep!
Like most Alfas at that time they had great engines and handled great!
The body work was dissolving faster than i could fix it (luckily enough i was in the 3rd year of my apprenticeship as a welder fabricator, so i spent most Saturday mornings welding one bit or another)
That was the main reason i bought the Daihatsu Domino, i got really fed up fixing the bloody thing!

Funny thing is the Type R reminds me of the Alfa, the great handling and that great engine (Hopefully without the bodywork problems)

saab 90 then we set up our branch of the saab owners club. my father in law ran the the club. he had a saab 900.
then we had a saab 900 3 door.
saab 9000 five door.
saab 9000 four door
saab 9-5 saloon 2.3 lpt auto with sport mode. i have to say i miss my saabs they are very good cars. i had no major problems with any of them.and the saab owners club was a great club to belong to.but rising petrol costs and insurance costs forced us to give the saabs up . But now we have a new love our honda 1.8 five door civic. I have test driven a type R GT for 4 hours , does that count?

Ford Escort 1.3
Ford Puma 1.4
EP3 Civic Type R (quite a jump from the Puma to this...in both speed and insurance!)
FN2 Civic Type R

each one a little better than the last.

My wife had a 1.4 Puma, I really liked it. OK it wasn't as quick as the 1.7 but it was still good to drive.

...Yeh the Puma was an excellent car (and future classic in my eyes). I would have liked the 1.7 but I couldn't justify the insurance at the time. Still, speed isn't everthing as you said; it had great handling and a sweet gear change.

mines quite short but ive only been driving 4 an a half years!

1987 red Vauxhall Nova 1.2 saloon......yes saloon (with a loud exhaust and alloys) how embarrasing! i grew a hatred for red cars with this!

1996 blue Nissan Primera GT 2.0 looked like a bit of a taxi but it absolutly flew! embarrased a few of my mates with 'quick' corsa's

1999 Blue Honda Prelude 2.2 motegi. loved it but couldnt afford the fuel and repair bills! but it introduced me to the civic type-s

2007 Silver Honda Civic Type-S 2.2. my new love

will have to find a pic of the nova! cost me £50 and filled it with speakers! i lost count of how many times the police stopped me for 'routine checks', think it was more than 30 times in 18 months!
