BTCC type R

Went to Rockingham race track yesterday for the BTCC. Had a great day and saw some CTR's on the way and in the carparks.

Was that any of the civinfo.com fans ??

I took a couple of snaps of a Type R converted to a race replica on show near the Hi-Q stand. Take a look.........

Overall the Civics did us all proud

That looks awful imo. Nothing about it I like. And why is the actual race car a 5 door?

That's what i can't understand. The actual race car is a 5 door with a standard silver grill cover. Then a souped up Type R engine dropped in it.

All BTCC cars have 5 doors. Must be the rules maybe

The reason behind the 5 door I thought was the R wasn't out when they started usaing the new civ and so used the 5 door instead? Also, I don't mind, it however AFAIK it is technically illegal to have (Race) numbers on a street-legal/going car.

However I quite like it, if it does what it says on the tin.

It is the rules that the cars must be 4/5 door. (Except for some of the small teams which must be running under different rules, as there are still some Integras & EP3 Civics being used)

All the big teams - RAC, Halfords, Seat, VXRacing etc are all in 4 door saloons/5 door hatchbacks.

Although I have a 3 door Civic, at least I can say I've got the same grille as the BTCC one.

It's all to do with the S2000 rules they started to bring into play last year.
Vehicle must be 5 dr etc.

Team Dynamics got special dispensation to run a 5dr CTR instead of the Imported DC5s. So much for the old rules of having to run 'real' car which exist in the UK market huh??

Must be a recent rule change 'cos a couple of seasons back, 88 racing (vauxhall) were running sport hatches as their cars.....

just checked the rules, s2000 rules state vehicle must be at least 4dr........

Yes, the new rules started in the 2007 season.

Halfords stopped using the Integra, and switched to the 5 door Civic.

Vauxhall switched to the Vectra from the 3dr Astra Sport Hatch (Don't know why they didn't just use the 5dr Astra - maybe the aerodynamics weren't right )

5 door rule kinda sucks. Didnt know that. As for numbers on road car. Doubt there is any law against that otherwise ever rally car and "road legal hillclimb/sprint" etc must be illegal. I know the country is in a sad state but surely I can still stick a number on my door if I want to.

In fact the Accord would be a better looking base for a touring car than the Civic

Ahh, but theyre on closed courses when racing, it is a mere technicality, but it is apparently covered by prevention of on road racing regulations, dumb huh.

Not sure whether it's an optical illusion, but when I watching this at the weekend whilst it was p***ing down I noticed that the nearside windscreen wiper seemed to go higher up the screen than mine ?

I wonder if they have fitted a longer blade to the passenger side than production cars ?

Cheaper to run a Vectra..They dont have to modify it then..just get a rep to drive a bog standard one!! LOL

Rally cars drive on public roads between stages and I dont see them getting out to take the numbers off. I find that bizarre legislation if it is true
