Grey Plastic thing ;-)
Goodmorning my fellow civic owners....
I dont know what to call that grey piece of plastic behind the wheels in english ( offcause i know in my own language )..., but i guess you know. I havent ordered it, but im suprised that it is not black like the rest of my car. I suppose that it is not a standard thing on a type R ? .... But i guess that it is pretty good for keeping road salt, gravel, water, snow and dirt away from the sides I havent seen it on any type r pictures. Last edited by Juff; 25th April 2008 at 09:46. |

It is a mudflap.
I have them on my Type S (which shares the same shape of skirts & wheelarches as the Type R) The mudflaps don't come colour coded as standard, but can be painted. Not an issue for me as my skirts/wheelarches are grey anyway They do work quite well in keeping the sides of the car a bit cleaner. Haha, I live in the borough of Lewisham in SE London - the anti-car brigade are rife here and speed bumps literally populate almost every single road - makes me so annoyed! Their latest scheme is enforcing a blanket 20mph speed limit across the entire borough. If they do this, I will be leaving.

According to my honda dealer, its pretty cheap to have them painted in the same colour as the rest of the car......
I guess its the only right thing to do..... I see them dull grey mudflaps all the time Have a nice weekend |

On the original pre TypeR Civic the plastic wheels surrounds were all in the same grey colour as these mudflaps which at the time made sense.
Being as the TypeR has colour coded trims I agree that the flaps should match. |

I keep catching those straight rubber fin things, attached to the underside of the front bumper, on each side. Thats why I havn't bothered with the mudflaps.
What are they supposed to do anyway, -- direct the air flow to the front discs. ?? |

Yeh I had to ditch mine after I got it colour coded!
I have left them in to get done as well but I might just end up doing without them, I'll see how it looks! I must say though I have definitly noticed more dirt along the side of the car and particuarly on the door sills after having taken the mud flaps off! So they do have some function, as well as the early warning system |

They do need to be redesigned to be higher though. Those flaps under the front bumper are a mystery though, the IS200 had them as well. |
