Todays Stupid Question " ignition Key"

So...... here it is...

How do you guys "turn the ignition key" ?

Do you just twist it when inserted, or do you keep the presure on it before you twist....

Actually im having this conversation with a friend...
I guess it does not matter how you do it, but it seems like it "turns" easier when the presure is on it...

Without any preasure its harder to twist, like you have to twist a cylinder in.......

Actually i never thought of this before, its just a thing which you do...

Thinking too much is bad for you

I've always understood it could cause the blade of the key to snap if you exert too much pressure. Far better to slightly move the steering wheel to remove any pressure on the key and turn normally.

If you are parked with the wheels turned, the steering lock can apply.

bit of spring force will stop barrel moving between positions when driving or going over rough surfaces and would be same on all cars with conventional keys methinks

I did this once with my old accord company car. Key snapped off in ignition- luckily was still usable, half was stuck in and all u needed to do was insert the other half and it worked fine!!- the car had done 180K so metal fatigue was probably the main factor.
