Brake Biase....

Hi everyone,

Anyone know anything about the brake Biase on type 'R' s???

The reason I ask, is because everytime I clean the car - (which is alot ), I notice that there is a lot more brake dust on the rear wheels than on the fronts....which I find weird as it's the complete opposite to what used to happen with my Focus ST, or any other FWD car I've ever had come to think of it.....

Can anyone suggest whats going on - or, dare I say it, is it that mine may have a fault??

No we all suffer from that, it's normal.

I was told by my dealer it was something to do with the VSA? operating the rear brakes?

It could be the VSA - lots of posts re rear brake wear all over this forum.

Also was told by my dealer that the rear pads are softer than the fronts to help the hand brake work better.

Ironic really when you think about it.

Am in the process of fitting EBC Green Stuff pads all round.

Also there is a guard that sits flush with the disks giving the dust no chance to go any were else, unlike the fronts that have a guard set back more. I find the fronts hardly gather dust !

I tested this:
- clean alloys
- drive without vsa for a few days on windy roads
- rear alloys are shiny shiny
- drive with vsa on windy roads
- rear alloys have almost instant dark dust, easily felt with finger

if you search a bit about esp/vsa then you'll see that rear braking on one wheel is to counter understeer, which is natural on a FF car.

this is also proof that you don't need to have the light blinking on the dash to have vsa taking action. I reckon the blinking only comes on as it does for abs, that is on emergency action.
