I think If the FD2 was available here rather than import I might have been tempted as I think the FN2 is under powered. 225 Bhp is more in the hot hatch league these days

Hmmm maybe, but the FN2 still beat your old car round the TG track and thats more bhp, torque, bigger engine and a turbo to boot. Its what you do with it that counts really

Not pleased was an understatment, But aparently he is going to correct this....................

..... By spending another £1000 on the car

My comment of "why dont you pay for driving lessons instead" didn't go down very well either

See if you are able to get the magazine called "Track and Race Cars"-January 2008 edition. This is a more specialist magazine in regards to track work. They reviewed 11 hot hatches and the FN2 came second overall. It didn't have the fastest time(and a couple of criticisms were mentioned, but NOT about the rear beam!) it did however beat the Golf GTI edition 30,Astra VXR,Seat Leon Cupra and the Mazda 3 MPS around the Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground.Considering it's more of a power track I am suprised that the FN2 was able to beat the turbo charged cars!
I think the CAR mag. has also a test from 2007 pitting the FN2 against other hatches such as the Mini Cooper S-If I remember that test correctly, the FN2 ended up winning that comparision.

I am a weekly subscriber to auto express and hold that mag and high regard and they love the type r. Would honda take on these negatives and create a new version with independant suspension at the rear?

Thanks
If you test drove it then you must have tested the handling and the ride and formed your own opinion. Assuming that you must be intelligent because you are ordering a spaceship why on earth would you ever take notice of what Clarkson says even Top Gear Magazine voted it their top hot hatch so even they don`t take any notice of his opinion.
Just enjoy your spaceship and don`t worry about what others think especially those that don`t have one.

Before i got the GT i owned the Golf GTI for 2.5 years and to be fair its a cracking car in all ways but i cannot tell the difference in the suspension, bar the civ is a lot harsher, though i dont think i have a torsion beam on the front .

In fact i do find the Civ GT a lot sharper and find it can take corners sharper than the golf.

Though torsion beam cant be that bad, you only have to ask your mates who drive Vauxhall VXR's, Megane R26's and Pug 207 GTI's just to name a few. Though its sort of funny why that fact got left out during their TG reviews

Get the Civ, its a great little car and still gets looks off people, even more when she's (yep mine is one of the female ones) been washed and waxed. Though owning one this weekend may not be too good, specially as they are prediciting dry pumps

with regard to the way the FN2 drive, I read a comment of an experienced driver (on a forum I can't recall) compared it to how the S2000 drives: it's a FR, yet it is something else, and it drives differently. somehow I feel my CTR exactly like this, for sure it's a FF, yet I just keep taking lines differently than I would with another car. can't say if it's due to weight ratio, torsion beam, susp setup, or a combination of them...

Sorry but this quote makes no sense and the punter who wrote it says it feels like a front engine rear wheel drive? Not driving it properly then is he and then goes onto say that he takes lines differently? If this is compared to a Rear wheel drive car then I can see how sometimes you have to do this....but I take lines in most cars the same way the exeption being the M3 sometimes as I have felt the back end step out taking the same line as the CTR.

Has anyone read up on the Chassis on the FN2 on the Honda website. It says:

'The MacPherson strut/torsion beam chassis provides the basis for the Civic Type R. Much of the development of the chassis was carried out in Europe, with European drivers, to ensure ride and handling characteristics suited the road and the customers. As the UK is by far the biggest market for Type R in Europe, much consideration and time was spent setting the car up for British roads. The result is a car that's incredibly rewarding to drive, but also that's perfectly balanced and easy to handle.'

So it was built for the UK then? Who the hell did they ask then?

sorry, it may just be my english being bad. you know, french and stuff...

what I meant is that the s2k is a fr, yet it feels different from other fr, and apparently the same goes for the fn2: it's a ff yet it feels different from other ff. there's no comparison whatsoever between ff and fr. sorry for being unclear.
