Hi Matt, as illegalhunter says the Wiki has the best way to run in the car, but its always recommended to stay out of the vtec for the first 600/650 miles. However I myself accidently went into vtec a few times during this process.
It also looked like those who had Vtec'd a good bit from new used more oil than others who didn't, but Vtec mode uses more oil and petrol so its more than likely that these people were and still are in vtec for a good amount of time every day, hence the reason for their top ups in oil. There are two schools of thought, gentle running for 1000kms, or high revs from the start. Actually, it is generally considered that high revs from the start will map the ECU so that it is more "efficient" and should give better "high peformance". Don't really know if that is b/s in actual fact... but whatever

Stick to the running in method you are using and it'll be fine. I took mine to about 2000miles before i got the limiter lights on. A short blast in i-vtec won't do it any harm as long as it is warmed up to full working temp. Have fun |

hi mate
had mt CTR since Se[tember and have blasted it from day one with lots of VTEC and breaking too...was recommended to do this by the Honda technician when I picked it up from new and have to say the car is amazing!! There are so many articles about this run in method and why it is so effective and I have to agree with Shademaster...it is the best method. If you run it in too slowly you'll have one of the slowest Type R's in the country welcome to the site and enjoy your new baby whatever methis you choose |

I have had 6 brand new cars i ran the first 5 in using the method described in the hand book (the take it easy method I ran the ctr in using the method described in the Wiki section, I don't know if it is just the V-tec engine, but i would have to say the R is the fastest and most responsive of all my previous cars Last edited by SHADEMASTER; 8th June 2008 at 11:11. |

450 km on the clock and gave it some good v-tec allready...not hit the rev limiter yet but very close...how can you resist to keep it in low revs? Dangerous overtaking i assume...
