Mine was rather warm when I got in this afternoon, however as was the temp in the car....left it running for a few mins with the a/c on and it soon cooled down.....not much use if you are in a hurry though!

Perhaps leave the cloth over the gear shift whilst not in the car rather than drive with it over it??

I prefer to burn my hand than to have it frozen off. The wee wooly hats that you get on the innocent smoothies (near winter time) are good for putting on the gear knob. Perfect fit and they stop your hand from getting cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Looks a bit odd, but serves a purpose

personnally, as a workaround, I turn the middle air blower towards the gear stick, and the left one towards the place where I put my hand on the wheel, let it run a bit before handling them, and wait for convection to do its work (don't even need to set tempreature low).
10~20s is usually enough to make it bearable.

What about cold then? I live in Finland and it regulalry gets below -30C. That is cold!

As for hot, believe it or not we often have long summers of well over +30C, but certainly hotter than the UK!

Haha! I thought I was the only one using the little Innocent wooly hat on the shift knob. Perfect in winter for ensuring hands don't freeze, although ideally I'd like to see Innocent do a little baseball cap for summer use!
