The R the way she was meant to be!

Well, have fitted the group N ECU, pipercross intake kit and milltek non resonated cat back and had my first proper run in her today with the mods well bedded in, done around 250 miles with a mixture of motorway, A roads and the twisties. I have driven many a car including all the current hot hatches and nothing, i mean nothing IMO compares to this for the money, so much noise and feedback, grip and feel and the big grin factor.

Cruises beautifully now and exhaust note is really deep until 4000rpm where the vtec intake note comes in! The k20 is one of the best NA 2 litres around, no doubt about it. If your thinking about these mods then go for them, well worth the money, puts a grin on my face everytime I drive her, only thing putting me off is the amount of R's in milano i am starting to see, but I know mines that bit different!!!!!!

Only one question, with all that power what have you done to the suspension? I drove a Megane 225 before my Type R and frankly speaking the handling of the Type R is pretty poor in comparison. Any suggestions about how to imrpove the handling?

Also, where it the best place to get the tuning bits?

If you want to know about EVERY possible mod then speak with Stella. He made his into a track car and i'm using his advice doing mines up.

Mines leaves the house as a normal CTR GT on Monday morning and returns on Tuesday evening as a beast and my bank balance will have taken a hammering but worth it.

I think the car handles very well but investing in the FRS set up from ABP Motorsport in Crewe will make the car more responsive, give more feel through the steering wheel etc. Tracking and Camber adjusted (Honda camber is not adjustable so they supply and fit adjustable camber bolts) wheel alignment altered. That and some coilovers should help you if you feel it doesn't handle well

you UK people are so lucky to be able to do this.

in france this is so much totally out of question to modify anything on the car performance-wise, else you have to re-homologate the car by bringing it to the 'DRIRE' (Direction régionale de l'Industrie, de la Recherche et de l'Environnement), which is a long, costly, and try-again process, and assigns the car a specific model number, and then insurance costs are so high you just buy a better stock car in the first place.

wha'ts more, there's some legal prerequisite that installing some parts must have them being approved by the car manufacturer, which is just completely insane: you will of course ever receive an answer from honda that fitting this ecu or that break caliper or even alloys is safe to use on the car.

yet the law contradicts itself as things like changing alloys are legal as long as the alloy does not stands out of the car body, and things like aero kits, lowering springs, air filters or performance exhausts are tolerated and never checked by the police, but could bite you back very hard in the event of an accident, simply nullifying the insurance contract...

so any half-serious performance mod makes your car a track one... or yourself an outlaw.
