Time for New Tyres
Hi all,
The time has come for me to buy some new front tyres. I havent been overly impressed with the standards that come with the type-r so i wont be buying them again. I am considering getting the Michelin pilot sports. Does anyone use them, or have any other recommendations for tyres? Obviously the cheaper the better but im not going to sacrifice performace for maybe only a £20 saving or so. I am open to suggestions. Thanks |

I have pilot sports on my CTS from when I got it....they certainly stick to the road and seem to be wearing OK.
I also had them on my old A3 and they lasted for a long time! |

Try using UK tyres online: Blackcircles.co.uk discount tyre specialist for prices and/or info about other tyres.
And just out of curiosity, what mileage have you got out of tyres? |

Im not sure off the top of my head. I will have a look and let you know this evening. I will post pics up too. The middle and inside edge of the tyre if fine, loads of tread left. The outside edge however is not looking good! Quote:

Ok i have done nearly 15500 on these. As you can see from the pics they are wearing a lot more on the outside than the inside! I check the tyre pressures probably once a month. I know i should do it sooner and i will start making a habit of it!
A bit odd tho. |

The Michelin Pilots are great tyres.
Judging by the wear on the old ones, it looks like you may need to get the tracking checked before fitting new tyres. |

Awesome choice of tyre! Mine needs changing and they have lasted 23500miles!
Gonna get exact same ones!!!! Pricey though! ouch!!! Only issue with them is that every bump you go over... you feel it! |

You seem pretty sold on the pilots and 125 is a pretty good price (think the best I found was 140+) but just incase you want some other options I put the Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas on my front wheels when the pilots ran out and I've been suitably impressed with them. They're cheaper than the pilots but not cheap. I probably dont push my civic as hard as you do but I've got a lot of torque to throw at them and they haven't let me down yet...

Ive not heard of those before i will have to look into them. Its not that i push my civic hard all the time, most of the time i just drive normally. Its just on those occasions when its a lovely day, and i just feel like having a bit of a blast. All i want to know is that they will stick

Can I stick in a big recommendation for Conti Sport Contact 3s? Have had them fitted to my Type-S and done around 5000 miles with them so far and they've been absolutely excellent. Best points for me are: extremely progressive loss of grip and v. good road feel, both wet or dry; very smooth ride, they take up bumps really well; excellent wear rate so far (and as expected, given various opinions posted on the internet - I'm optimistic at getting at least 20,000miles out of a set). In various magazine road tests they typically set very fast relative lap times in both the wet and dry, so grip is up there with the best (and typically better than the Michelin PS2). Plus cheaper than the Michelin!
Otherwise look at the new Goodyear Eagle F1 Asyms, they also seem really good with good reports. Almost fitted those instead! Courant |

After searching reviews and considering the options i think i am going to go for the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asyms! They seem like the best mix of handling/feel/road noise for me! Now to find the best price! £101 each delivered so far.

If that is the passenger front it's probably worn like that from enthusiastic roundabout-ing! Used to get that when I did trackdays because of all the righthanders and the load is on the passenger front. Sure with 15k miles you cant complain!!

The F1A's have certainly been good in the past few days of rain and I actually think they are quieter than the Michelins I had. That was the main reason for getting them. I'll know for sure on Monday as I have another long motorway trip and that's when the road noise is the most annoying.
