Type R reliable?

I know I shouldnt be asking this as its a jap car, but built in UK. I have read a few post of the site and seems quite a few people are questioning the reliability of the civic and the building quality. What are peoples opionions of the R. Also it seems that the standard civic has done badly in a reliability survey. I placed an order the other day and things like this worry me!

Thanks

I think that most of the problems have been with earlier civic models.

I've had my Type R for 7 months now and done over 4500 miles. Overall i'm very pleased with it.

I did have a slight problem with 3rd gear which seems (hopefully) to have resolved itself
I also think i may be one of the people to have a non functioning alarm but need to investigate this further. But thats it apart from the dreaded stone chips but then every car i've ever owned has had these. Oh and my front seat has got a small shiny patch where the seatbelt rubs

Ultimately this is a great drivers car and made to be enjoyed so don't spoil the fun by worrying about it all the time . I don't but then maybe i'm not as fussy as some

Hello and welcome to the forum................. I,m a relative newby had mine for a month now and the only problem so far is the faulty alarm problem. Reliability is the same for all manuafacturers , you get good and bad cars, I think on the whole people on here would not swop their cars as there is no other car out there that comes even close to the contempary looks of the civic. Granted there are some are elcetrical issues (lol ) but engines seem bullit proof.
Ps Check your alarm , you may find its unreliable lol

Likewise, have an 08MY car and there have been no reliability issues. Except for the 3rd gear which as R-2 mentions seems to have gotten better over time! I don't think build quality is that bad - nothing has broken or fallen off although there is the odd dashboard rattle. The only thing I think is totally rubbish is the paint which seems to chip and scratch like nobody's business!

I have to say that when I got the JD Power survey I gave the car top marks.

A lot of the issues that people have had on here are, as said before with older 8th Gen Civics and a lot of the issues had been resolved by the time the R was relased in the first quater of 2007.

Issue with regards to bumpers popping out on the R, this is cause by the dealers fitting the splitters and grill badges because although they are ordered with the options at outset they are not factory fitted, but fitted by the dealer when they get the car prior to you picking it up. Some dealers do get it right but a few dont

Otherwise fantastic car and I wouldn't swap it for anything else.....well within reason

I have placed an order

Order placed

How is the build quality. Is there a difference between 07 and 08 models? I am comming from an ibiza cupra tdi. Although the plastics are cheap its well put together!

Mine is fine mechanically but must rank as one of the worse cars I have ever owned for creaks and groans coming from virtually everywhere, nearly every day I seem to be finding a new noise.

May 07 RGT, 20k no real problems other than the 3rd gear synchro which was replaced and is now perfect

had an issue with rear calipers getting stuck on the carriers but they were freed off and 3k on are showing no issues. might be relevant that most of my miles have been motorway, so a good dose of b-roads might have cured that of its own accord

so far so good

Can we focus more on build quality now please. How does it compare to the competition

I'm happy with mine, but some others aren't unfortunately

Are you thinking of backing out of the order

In theory, if you place an order now, you wont get the handbrake problem or the issue with 3rd gear.

Aside from the above issues I've had problems with the clutch, plently of rattles, and the paint quality is pants.

If I was to step back in time I wouldn't buy it again (maybe go for the GTI). Never thought I would say that as I'm a big Honda fan.
