Milano Red bonnet defect Help needed
Evening All
I picked My Milano red CTR up last month from the dealers a few days before it was ready it was delivered to My local dealer with white plastic protective plastic on the bonnet and roof. I have been away from home nearly all of June so I have only covered 100 miles or so in My CTR anyway I have notice that on the bonnet the paint looks to be damaged it is hard to explain but it looks like something has been stuck to the bonnet and when removed it has possible taken some of the clear coat off as well. The only thing I can think of which has been stuck to the bonnet is the white plastic protective stuff at the dealers. The paintwork looks a lighter shade of red than the unaffected areas if You know what I mean. I have contacted My local dealer today and they want to see the car in the morning. The big question is what will the dealer do to sort the problem out should I be asking for a complete new bonnet or is a respray acceptable for a car which has only covered 100 miles. Your help would be greatly appreciated. |

Don't hold your breath you will probably get nothing done unless you pay. Honda do not want to know about paint issues just read the high number of complaints on this site, and wipe bird crap off asap as it virtually melts the paint off my ctr within a few hours. good luck though.

Well I ended up at the dealers yesterday morning they took a look at the bonnet problem and they said they have not seen anything like that before.
The dealer thinks that the plastic sheet which was stuck onto the bonnet at the factory has pulled some of the clear coat off when the dealer has removed it. I am returning the car to them on monday morning so that a paint specialist can use a heat gun on the bonnet |

Well at least they have admitted that there is an issue and hopefully they will sort it. They guy with the heat gun will be trying to warm the paint so that it then melts slighlty and reforms the way it should have looked in the first place. As it seems to be a big area your talking about I would think that a respray will be in order.
How is the roof looking btw? |

Hi Angie
The roof is fine to be honest the guy in the workshop took his time looking all over the car at least they are trying there best. The middle of the bonnet seems to be the worsed affected I think You could be right about the respray I cannot belive I did not see it when I picked the car up. |

Hi all
I thought I would up date You on the paint defect issue I am having with My CTR I dropped the car off at My local dealer this morning I was told that it could be a couple of hours which I did not mind anyway I return later on this morning and I was told that the heat lamp had removed the marks on the bonnet and the paint below the clear coat had not cured properly before Honda had applied the protective plastic. I had a look at the bonnet at the dealers and everything seemed fine until I got back to My house which is a 1 hour drive from My dealer (I live in the sticks) to My shock the marks are back and this time there seem to be worse. I have contacted the main dealer straight away and have been asked to take some pictures and e-mail them back to them the dealers are talking to Swindon today and hopefully getting back to Me tomorrow. The pictures that I have taken don't really show the marks up it seems to be difficult to capture the marks on digital camera. |

I could not agree more harleyfatboy I will see what they have to say in the morning and go from there.
I am starting to think that the least they can do is get Me a new bonnet it looks like the problem has occured at the factory and not at the dealers. |

The doctor uk ...I am sure we have one or two people who could put you straight on this site regarding time frame ....But i think you have to give both parties reasonable time to come to a solution and try to remedy the issue ....that said what is reasonable time ...there is clearly a problem ..you have paid a large sum of money , and expect goods to reflect that in the price ...AND... when you have sorted the issue out.... dont forget , your time , petrol , and INCONVENIENCE ....As you said you live in the sticks ...BUT and heres the big but .. Dont let this put you off owning in my opinion one of the coolest cars out there man ....ON A STEEL HORSE I RIDE

Had a word with my brother who is dealer principal for Mercedes dealership...............he says , providing you have given the dealership every chance to put things right and you are still not happy you can reject the car. It may also be in your interest to contact Trading Standards of your problem and keep them in the loop as well. If you decide to go down the rejection road , do it sooner than later but.....................You must give your dealeership every chance to solve the problem.......Ps Copy Honda UK in all your correspondance

The dealer has already identified it as a paint defect, and not a chip or any other sort of damage caused by you since you collected the car. The fact they have failed to rectify it to your satisfaction doesn't detract from the fact that it should be rectified to your satisfaction.
I hope you don't have to reject the car, as it sounds as if you are really pleased with it apart from the bonnet Good luck and I hope they come up with a plan tomorrow. Either way though I don't see how Honda UK can refuse to repair it as it is a manufaturing defect. |

Hi Doc ,
IMHO and considering the amount of threads generated by `stone chips ` etc I would think that having the bonnet painted was the better option just ask them to add plastisizier to the clearcoat which will keep the stone chips off also if you ask them to `block `the original paint without busting through you will have a bonet that will vertually bullet proof .The paintshop guys wont like being told what to do but if you`re nice to them then they might be nice to you .The only thing I would be carefull of is when you get the car back giv the paint a couple or three weeks the harden up properly and check from all angles in different light (street lamps are a good one in this case )for any sign of `shrinkage ` i.e. if you can see the the original marks in the paintwork that you took in in for . In this time try not to wash it but just rinse any dirt or bird droppings etc off of the bonnet of with running water from the hose and leave to dry .Also check therest of the car before and after it goes in for any small dents overspray in the shuts dried up flatting water (red pools of dry dust especially in the engine bay ) etc but a good workshop wll take the bonnet off and good luck ,let us know how you geton ,some pics would be good .... |
