Cancelled order

I orderd my Civic Type R a few weeks ago but I have since cancelled my order. This was due to reading so many negative posts about poor build quality and other problems. I am now looking at focus st or golf ed 30. Gutted because I love the luck but cant risk spending so much money on a poorly built car!

Sorry but more fool you

At the end of the day it is your money.
However with over 10000 civics built and only 11000 members on here most of whom are happy there is a very samll percentage of cars with problems.

Respect your decision, but you won't get a better quality engine than the K series engine in this range. If you like build quality, VW is the one for you.

Boz, I agree with Brodick, I think that was a mistake, every car has minor niggles and few cars on here have had serious ones (2 IIRC, everything else has or is being fixed).

TBH, you'll be sitting there and an R/S/5dr will pull up and you'll think why didn't I go for that...... I know I would have been.

There was at last count over 80,000 8th gen Civics world wide and over 15000 Type R's and most of us (especially with Type R's) have had no issues really.

I wish you luck in your quest for the perfect car, but I've heard of someone buying a ST after a Type R and its been at the dealers for 2 weeks as it makes a grinding noise when it goes round corners at anything over 40 mph. Golf is due to be changed in the fourth quater of 2008 due to sales being less than they had expected (so you may wish to keep this in mind for resale values).

Every car will have its niggles and I fully understand that you want peace of mind that comes with some other manufactures (even if they are living on past rep)

Good luck

Thats really bad that.
I have sold about 40 Type R's in the last year or so & can honestly say I have only seen one customer back who did'nt like the car due to thin paint ( he had an ep3 which was unmarked when he p/x'd it )
A couple have had the odd niggle but nothing that could'nt be sorted promptly

Boz what a shame you felt the need to cancel.

I'm a very happy Type R owner. Its a shame you will miss out on such a fantastic car. Its such a great design and looks-wise the Focus and Golf are a little dated in comparison.

Don't forget that a forum like this tends to attract a lot of posts from people that have problems, seeking help. Therefore it gives the impression that there are a disproportionately high amount of faults reported.

the civic is probably no worse than many other cars - especially CTRs and later models where initial teething problems have been sorted.

i dont even own a Type R...yet but there is no way i would sacrifice it for a focus... and especially a VW.
1, There are so many about i would prob get bored after about a day...
2, The focus...what a joke.
3, Same old, same old!
4, Build Quality in the Focus is another joke.
5, General complaints for Ford and VW, are far far more... believe me...
6, You drive on a motorway and your guaranteed to find a ford broken down.
7, Ford depreciates much more, only the golf you would benefit from.
8, omg you will regret it...
9, you will keep on regretting it...
10, well in terms of having fun driving, you wont get that...

like i have mentioned before sometimes we all have niggles but thats the beauty of this site, without it, you wouldnt know what to look out for. You become to understand your car and find out what are the niggles and what are the perks.
I come on this everyday and whether there are new threads due to anything wrong i read them. But if you really ask a honda civic owner what they think about their cars, i guarantee they wouldnt even mention the problems, and if they do, its welllll after ALL THE GOOD STUFF!

Good Luck though!!!

I think you'll live to regret that decision every time a CTR drives past you.

I have no complaints with mine and love driving it

Good luck with whatever you get, because if it turns out to have a problem or two it'll only make you feel worse.

I also looked at the Focus ST and the Golf GTi when I was shopping around. When I look at a golf or an ST now I am so glad I went for the CTR.

The ST will be great to drive. However it will empty your wallet double quick with big depreciation magnified further by its thirst for fuel.

The golf is a great car but doesnt feel special like the CTR.

There are some Civic lemons around, some people have had bad luck. but the same could be said of most manufacturers.

Have a look at this and do a filter on the Type R

not entirely sure on your motivation in posting such a thread in a Honda forum but........................

from personal experience your 1st mistake was not understanding that people will shout to the rooftops if somethings wrong but dont react the same when its all going peachy

2nd mistake was to think Honda is any better or worse than Ford or VAG in terms of build quality, if it was so bad they would not have a marketable product

your third and biggest mistake [if you go along with k20a], is thinking your buying quality and engineering with a Mk5 Golf

I bought one just over 2 years ago brand new from a franchised dealer and it was less dependable than most of my previous cars [5 of which being Alfas]. The Bora I bought 2 weeks ago for my daily drive and the Mk4 Golf is what VW made their reputation on, I'm afraid the MK5 isn't even close unless your a badge snob.

Time to be realistic and understand there is no such thing as a perfect car, and even if you think you have one, be prepared to be let down by a dealer in most cases.

just had a sneeky peek at the mk5 cr*p... i mean golf site... (i know, i know...im sorry) and the first message i found was titled... HONDA Vs ASTRA compared to the golf... here was the answer...

'' cant comment on the astra but i do like the civic's the only thing is that you have to rev the nuts off them, but they finish very well though. my mate has a new shape one, man inside it blew me away the first time i got in it. def mades me think the mk4 is getting old now'' ...

When a car is first put into production there are always issues that need to be addressed simply because `it aint been built before`and this can take a little time to iron these out ,manufacturers always hope these arent too big and warrant recalls etc .My undestanding is that the first 4600 odd civics produced had minor production problems that have sinced sorted .
This leaves you with the soon to be replaced Mk 4 Golf , with its perceived quality and a Ford Focus , also just replaced ....
I know what my choise would be running costs included ha ha ha ...
