What single engine mod produces the best power increase?

I'm new to N/A tuning, my last car was a 1.5 Mitsubishi Colt Turbo and after a simple remap it went from 150BHP to 216BHP.

I know that sort of increase isnt possible with the Type R, unless I went down the Supercharger route.

My question is, what mod produces the best power increase?

I'm considering the Spoon Cams, but I've no idea what BHP increase you get with them.....

The other thing I was thinking about is that if I got an air filter, exhaust, TB etc... is all that going to add up to more money than a Supercharger?

Ideally I'd just like a 30BHP increase.

Intake, Intake Mani (RRC) and TB (Mugen)

CPL/TDI Exhaust Mani and decent CatBack

FlashPro

THat would be it without getting into Cams and more internal parts

Not cheap mind ive spent quite abit

Saving for RRC and TB package and then a fine tuning hoping to get 220/225 if i can

GM intake, RRC, milltek, flashpro remap I got 230...it is true that the charger is the best £/bhp but it depends on how much you want out of the car etc, terry do you retain cruise with the charger map tuning?

You know Saltburn isn't too far from me at the minute, I was planning on having a few beers tonight though... but would love to see a Supercharged CTR!

RE On topic I think the Hondata is the easiest way to get more from the engine. Not a huge top end increase but improvements in the mid range pulling power. Lots of threads on the site about it.

btw am in Darlington currently...

At the moment no, and the fuel guage has a mind of its own, but Paul at TDI has some software to sort it out so next month I will be able to say yes to cruise and other dash controls

I take it your previous car was a Colt CZT? they are pocket rockets
Back on topic, As said before i think u could achieve 30bhp easily with HKS Racing Suction or GruppeM, Milltek & Hondata Flashpro and possibly more with a good manifold.

Well that's what the dyno at TDI said, you need to bear in mind that some CTR's are pushing out close to 210 bhp stock, I didn't get a dyno done first but I'm guessing mines could have been pretty strong...I have RRC aswell

I'd be interested to see the full dash functionality with map tuning, must be an intelligent piece of software to do that given pretty much all the comp functions are dependent on the maf sensor...great news!

Kpro.

Cams, this that and the other are all good - but you'll only ever reap their (Aftermarket cams) 'power' benefits if it's mapped - if 'power' is what you're after.

Not sure Honda Cams from other engines will require mapping IIRC, but then if it's single most powerful mods you're after, and you're considering 'camming it' - then wouldn't you be going aftermarket? Rather than cams from another OEM engine?

Kpro is the single most beneficial part IMO - it has the ability to get the best out of a stock 'in tolerance' set-up.. so with mods and everything else can that be bolted on down the line, they can be configured to their max potential with the Kpro.

For 30bhp, you'd need a header, perhaps an inlet mani, an unrestrictive exhaust, proven intake, mapped with the Kpro IMO, maybe more.

Race headers/decats are where it's at - they bring the power, but come with their own inconveniences.

Cams and that sort of stuff is then worth thinking about later..

But for the parts I described above - you could more or less get a S/C - but then I don't know if I'd just want a S/C without the list of parts above. Basically S/C on a stock car.

Get both, the list of parts (exhaust, header, intake etc.), and a S/C.

Edit: Kpro = Flashpro.

I don't think you can get 30bhp with just an intake and an exhaust, mapped.

Re-edit: Mugen Socks are good for 37bhp - you just don't notice it as the FN2 has a 'smoother' power delivery. Trust me; some have achieved 45bhp, after a wash and tumble dry.

Best 2 mods are an LSD and Hondata flashpro.

Don't get caught up with peak bhp figures it's the midrange you are using 95% of the time and handling.

I've got the Mugen Suspension on order, will that work well with an LSD?

Does Hondata make alot of difference to a car with no other mods?
