Smile Alpine Type R

Hello!!!

I've been busy this mornin installing a set of Alpine component speakers in my CTR.

Fairly easy, took 3hrs to do both doors...

Purchased speakers from;

http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/prod...?product=22579

Speaker adaptors (from Halfords £12.99 same as these ones);

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/vaux...ors-p-498.html

Speaker adaptor leads (no need to cut original wiring)

http://www.nexxia.co.uk/Speaker_adaptors/honda.htm PC2-818

Tweeter;
To remove open window and carfully prise off...

Back of tweeter.JPG

Once old tweeter is removed, cut away some plastic to make to hole big enough to fit the new tweeter unit. Once in it simply screws on with the plastic ring. The tweeter can be angled in any direction

Tweeter.JPG

Woofer and crossover;
To remove doorcard remove blanking plate behind the inside door handle and the two screws, and remove one screw from the armrest (under door handle) see prev threads for detailed pics big thanks to Pottsy
Doorcard simply clips off

Feed wire from tweeter through door frame to the crossover,

Tweeter wiring.JPG

Use speaker adaptor to connect crossover to original honda speaker adaptor,
And use the wires supplied in the astra adaptor kit (break off
the astra adaptor "plastic bit") to connect the woofer to the crossover.

Crossover wires.JPG

I used heavy duty velcro to stick the crossover unit inside the door...

I have ordered Dynamat Extreme speaker insulation to reduce rattle and interference...

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/pro...s_id/3051.html

Will install once delivered

Yes you do need to drill holes into the door to accomodate the astra adaptors

Astra adaptor.JPG
Finally screw eveything together and put insulating tape on all exposed connections,

Installed woofer.JPG

Put the door back together and enjoy

(I was told by the guy from car audio centre to run in the speaker He said half volume max for the first 40 hrs else the speakers will get damaged)

I heard them in the shop before I bought them. They sound excellent with good bass and vocal clarity, lets hope mine sound the same...

I will be putting sound insulation around the front and rear speakers when I get some free time (june). Will defo post pics...cant be of anymore help atm

Hey mate I had the 2005 Type-R Components in my old car and they were pretty decent speakers but always had they amped up, but when I sold the car took them all out and ran them off the Alpine headunit and they did sound good still. How do the 07 Type-R Speakers sound with the stock FN2 headunit?

Also don't know if your on CTRO (I am Vitz on there) but there is a CTR meet in Bham this wkend (weather permitting). If not is it possible to try and meet up some time (I am at Warwick Uni) as really want to hear the speakers as the standard ones are okay for OEM actually but really miss my hifi in my old car (All Alpine install with Type-R speakers). I was thinking but the Type-X speakers but Type-Rs are much cheaper and not going down the whole aftermarket hifi with this car (to save on weight).

Also good luck with your exams mate! Finished all my finals now Just labs and a cpl of 2nd year exams (module choices not re-takes).....then hopefully get a 2.1 and start my sweet job.

They sound quite good, I don't think they have fully bedded in tho but sound good. I've got the bassworks in the rear, not sure if the bassworks amp runs the front speakers

Yeah mate didn't want to fork out loads for the type X setup, but they do look really good. Im happy with my setup don't want aftermarket amps and subs in the boot (take up space and add weight)

The bassworks amp is only for the rear speakers. Heard it in the demo car I test drove and it was rubbish (no offence). TBH it didn't sound any better than the std hifi with the bass on +6.

CTRO = Civic Type R Owners and is another forum about the CTR. I like to use both forums since learn things on both, but CTRO has alot more CTR owners and is alot busier.

Yeah June sounds cool, but have the 2nd year module exams in mid June, but should find sometime. Would be cool to meet up with some fellow FN2 owners.

Managed to blag getting my hifi setup at the Alpine HQ in Coventry (about 2 miles if that from my uni) and they guy their said the Type-X speakers are more expensive but alot better than the Type-Rs, but tbh found the Type-Rs good.

Cant believe you have a CTR in your first year Good work!

I do something quite similar to you, I do Biomedical Chemisty but don't enjoy it at all. Yeah always get loads of exams with a course like ours, I have done 8 finals recently and then 2 other 'finals' in june.

I have the same speakers, I got my mate to fit them in for me I was in so much pain watching him drill and cut my baby especially as I only had my type r for 2 weeks but it was so worth it. I also fitted a pioneer amp/sub that fits under the center part of the back seats. My car Sounds great now especially compared to the crappy standard set up, plus my boot space isn’t taken up by a sub box like in all my other cars.

I have had my hifi stage until I get some mega powerful saloon when I am older so the weight doesn't matter. But for now don't want to add weight, so looks like I will only upgrade the front speakers tbh. The Type-Rs are decent speakers so will probably do this sometime. As for cutting up the car I don't mind as used to doing it with old car (pretty much stripped that thing when doing my alarm and hifis (had 2 different installs)).
