+1 when Stevie at Grinspeed checked mine he had the head off and used a feeler gauge.

I dont think even Asimo could check the valve clearance without taking the head off the car.

They were quick to offer a refund when I said put in writing what you do for a valve clearance I will also get in writing what HUK suggest should be done and then ask a 3rd party to review ( trading standards) he didn't like that at all

Glad you're getting somewhere matey. Frankly it's appalling that you have had to resort to stealth tactics just to see if work that you paid for is actually carried out. As for their claimed 'valve load test', what a complete load of bull! Stories like this make me very happy that none of my last 3 performance cars ever went near a main stealer!!

I just new that they would cut corners. It was an oil and filter changeplus clearance and the only reason I took it there was for a complete 5 service stamps from Honda. Not again but to be honest I don't think in welcome at the dealership any more. Any way money refunded an got the stamp I needed

Eco display
More importantly, you still need your clearances checking.

Come up to grinspeed in Preston. Cheaper than the competition and highly rated around the civic forums.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but i am looking at getting clearnce check done in the near future. as i live in the arse end of nowhere have decided to give the new honda dealership whcih jus opened up 10 miles away a chance even though they impressed me so far with regards to a recall notice.

Anyhoo how much should i be looking at and any tips to make sure i dont get ripped off? I have read the rest of the thread about them coning people with a computer check so i am gen'd up on that.

Finaly has anyone had dealings with Brundle Honda kings lynn, think they are a satalite for a bigger dealer around newmarket way

Mark the rocker cover bolts with straight lines if they don't move chances are the rocker cover hasn't even been taken off and therefor check not done

Unless they use this "magic computer" then they won't touch the rocker cover

Took mine about a month ago to a main dealer for a service and valve clearances. When I looked through the paper work and noticed there was no mention of them being checked I phoned the dealer and was told they were checked on a computer.

I actually believed them until I read this thread as the garage has been good in the past and now I am fuming that they have told this BS. They charged £254 for the service with the air filter. Have I been done? i feel like an absolute mug

I rang Honda UK and they are not helpful.

Odd honda uk wouldn't offer help, they're usually quite helpful

They do now check them on a computer. If outside of limits they adjust them.
It's possibly working off a voltage level detected at the knock sensor at certain revs. Lads I spoke to that actually carry this out weren't quite sure of how it work just that its been recently introduced along with the new daignostics systems they are all using which isn't so easy to used for re-coding hence why I have been spending a bit of time at the local dealers helpng out with code changes.

Can see this working on a totally stock car but with any mods its not going to be as effective as noise levels change even with things like exhausts, mounts etc.
