Unhappy Had to happen someday.

Came home today to find a nasty surprise in the mailbox. My first speeding ticket in my Type-R. I did 57kph in a 50kph zone. After correction that's 4kph, so 16 euro's. Not too bad, but I hope it's the last (I can dream can I )

Anyone else got lucky yet ?

Worst thing is the road I got it. It's well known for laser gun checking. It's nothing to do with safety or anything since it's a deserted area. They just want a quick and easy way to fill the national treasury. You'd think they have better things to do if you read the news.

Well 16 euro's isn't too bad, but guess what.....

I opened up my mailbox today and found ANOTHER ticket. This time, 61 euro's for going 141kph on a 120kph highway.
I pretty pissed off now

I know it's my own fault, and I know there must be rules. But once again it was a stretch of highway that is by now means dangerous, just easy money for the government. I see 20 stretches of road a day that are a lot more dangerous, but I never see camera's there. Why ? Because everyone knows it's too dangerous to go to fast on those spots, and so they have no chance of actually catching someone.

You know the goverment actually take a certain number of traffic-fines into account when they build their yearly budgets ? If we all behave like brave honest citizens, they actually end up with a budget shortage. Yet they still say speed camera's are for improving safety. Yeah, right.

Guess I'll use the cruise control more often. And tuesday I'll be in Germany so I can let off some steam

If we would all behave well they probably charge us more for the petrol. They want us to work but actually they would prefer that we do it for free.

Speed cameras aren't for safety purposes anyway. I don't believe the safety improves if people drive 140+ and then brake hard to pass it with 120.

I'm still driving ticket free, but I have to say it's more difficult with this car. It should have a speed limiter, more boring but it would help for those stupid fines.

Hi THX1138,

Sorry to hear bout the fines, that really bites!

It also annoys me that they have speed traps in areas where speeding isn't necessarily dangerous. I personally think not paying attention to the road is far more dangerous.

Anyway, Cheers.

Difficult or not, if you are ticket free you must be doing something right.

I have had experience with the mobile speed camera, The first time was in a hire car i was using, £60 + 3 points .+ i lost £30 admin charge from the hire company for the pleasure of them telling me i had been caught, (this was taken from my deposit)
The second time i was caught out was in the civic, £60 fine and 3 points, OR i was offered a speed awareness course consisting of 1/2 days tuition and awareness of the dangers of speeding and i small speed awareness test to complete, The cost....£65 and no points.
Obviously i took the latter option for£65. And this is a 1 off course offered, should i be caught again it's definetly fine and points.

May i add that i am no Jenson Button, on both occasions i was speeding 35 in a 30 Zone. However.......its still speeding

The netherlands only has a point system for young drivers. Below 26 I think, because that's the group with a bigger change of getting into an accident. So they say.

They're illegal too and will get you an even higher ticket.

It is for people who have their drivers license less then 5 years. So if you get your drivers license on 40 you collect points until 45.

The first time it's 250 euros and they destroy the device.

I got one the other month.

They changed a road from 70 km/h to 50km/h overnight. The next morning I was going 69km/h on that road without paying attention to the new signs. The police was using laser measuring guns that morning, just a few hours after changing the speed limit. I got a very nice fine because of that. Couldn't really help but feeling that they changed it just to get some cash into their summer budget...

Oh, and yes, the fine was a bit over 300 EUR.

Don't come to Sweden

These 'fine' stories are making me feel depressed.
All that VTEC power and no where to unleash it.

I've also heard that we (South Africa) might getting the point system soon, , why do they think that taking points off my license is going to make the road a safer place when the roads are riddled with potholes & animals, and half the driving population don't even have driver's licenses.

The only plus to living here (with regard to fines), is that the traffic officers here are so corrupt. I know of people who have even been let-off a fine using a cold can of coke as a bribe!
