Running in

Hi, just a quick question... How carefully have you run yours in?

The dealer told me it absolutely didnt need running in at all but I took it steady for the first 625 miles (as advised in the manual). But I'm at around 940 miles now and I'm pretty much abusing it. Hope that's ok.

I found in the first couple of hundred miles with the Drive By Wire, it was all too easy to hit the rev limiter which I did twice but have that under control now (the engine spins so easily) . I think a good bit of VTech is fine and a mix of driving should do it.

Thanks Pottsy, although now I'm a little worried I took it too steady at first. I dont want to be missing out on any of the horsies I paid for

It's fantastic isnt it. I'm still getting used to the nature of natural vtec engine. I had a Focus ST before so I still find myself getting in and being a little disappointed with the power.... until I rev, rev, REV!!! Hahahahaha! It never fails to put a smile on my face!

thespacecowboy: Let them talk, mine NHB is ready at the showroom for tommorow's pickup

Hope you'll survive the months coming, holding on your sanity. I've had dreams about my pickup day, all of them ended horribly

I think breaking into the dealer and taking a night time test drive is my only way to stop my pangs!

Those 20 hours will be like 20 days though

*on topic*

running in? Once your engine is nice & warm you can thrash it all you want. Just don't do it cold.

Ooh sorry bro that's a shame. I found the wait v. difficult - mine was 2.5 months from order.

I've never known a car that sounds so much like a ******* race car when revved - its incredible!! .... sorry!

Although not completely new to this forum, sadly have little time to add to the comments.
I do need to express my thanks to so many of you for this site, especially Pottsy.
I have read, read and then read some more. Finally, I am going to be joining you...........
NHB (Of course), GT with Sat Nav ordered today. I finally decided that for once in my life, my heart was going to rule my head.
I have had a number to test drive, leaving the R till last. I'm glad I did. Hooked from the moment I came to a National Speed Limit Dual Carriageway.
20 weeks I've been told.............What an early Christmas present!

Yes, used Pottsy's/motortune method. 12,500 miles on the clock. No problems. Hardly any oil used.

Even service guy recently commented how well the car pulled (went on a quick run around the block after replacing rear shocks).

I was meticulous in going about the process though, especially when it came to beddding in the brakes (perhaps that also helps with pad/disc longevity which lots of users have talked about).

Did you go as far as changing the oil to non synthetic for the running in period ?

No, didn't do that as I had to drive across Europe very shortly after getting the car. Did give me the opportunity though to have a go on lots of twisty roads through Austria (avoiding motorways whenever I could).

I drove it carefully for the first (600 miles) with a fair squeeze to the high revs every now and then. Then I got scared about leaving weak spots so I then made sure I used the whole rev range.

I'm now on about 2,700 and since about 1,000 I've abused it and its FANTASTIC!!

Enjoy it!

The oil that comes in the cars from the factory has to be left in the car until the first service or till at least 6k anyway, so Honda quote.

As for the running in, i used the method in the link on my two CTRs, i warmed up and ragged the tits out of it, with a mixture of what was mentioned.

I used heaps of oil, as expected(as stated in link) for the first 6000 miles, then i switched over to fully synthetic, and never used a drop after that until i sold the car.
My first CTR i have to say i ragged heavier than my facelift EP3, and i felt my first car was the quickest of the two.
