So the JDM CTR is really an Accord Euro R in different clothes?
And the RR is a tricked out version again?
Therefore, it's a K20A2/A3?
Hmm....interesting!

The JDM CTR has the K20 engine just like the European CTR. It's a different spec. So ECU remapped, different exhaust/intake and perhaps compression. Tranny ratio is different too probably since it's a bigger/heavier 4 door saloon. And Mugen probably changed that again since they lightened it again.

The reason the K20 pumps out 230ps in the JDM spec is the 100 RON fuel and it's more tuned for racing then the European CTR. Honda said they wanted the European CTR to be a more usable day2day car. They balanced it, instead of going power only. The JDM CTR proves the K20 can do more then 200ps. But a car is more then just it's engine. It's about balance for the whole package. I think the 3/5 door platform is just a bit more suited for around 200ps instead of 230+. Civic saloon's don't sell all that well in europe.

I would love to have the multi-link suspension in the back though.

Tell you what. I'm gonna try to beat 1:06 on Tsukuba Circuit on my Playstation right now. Too bad I can only try it in the EP3 or DC5

Edit : 1:08 in the DC5 slightly tuned to 240ps.

The JAS civic costs something like £67K - hardly an everyday affordable sort of motor like the Mugen or Jap version Type R!

Nope, with a service bill starting at £2 or 3K, if not more, then the running costs of a Fezza outweigh the benefits for me.
Give me one of the last NSX's produced, but even then with a £1500 bill for clutch change, I'd still need to think it through very carefully.

Even at the point where the service bill is immaterial/pocket change, I'd still look at the NSX with a lot of tweaking to bring it more up to date, power wise, etc.
Still a lot less money than a Fezza and something as equally rare and captivating to hear and see.

If you had the money to buy a ferrari in the first place a service bill is going to be of no worry.

For some yes, but not me - it would factor in my decision making.

The Mugen Type-R was pictured ages ago on Pistonheads. I've attached the picture I received about 2 months ago, it is the car being made.

All this talk of 2 engines being developed is a bit mute though, remember, the Type-R in the Uk was developed in the UK and had no Jap factory imput. This is one of the reasons why it largely uses the engine from the last UK spec Type-R. The JDM Type-R however use the Japanese market engine which is much more powerfull from the outset with many different internal components. From what I've heard speaking to a few who have sampled it the JDM Type-R is fantastic in standard form (Its been rated by several Japanese Mags as "the best FWD car ever produced by Honda" ), far beyond what we get in the UK, so this mugen is probably a tasty bit of kit.

Ps. The JAS Civic Type-R is NOT called the Type-RR. This car was at the Goodwood festival of speed and I actually posed the question to one of the boss's of JAS. It is most definately not called the "Type-RR", he was very sure about that. It was a name made up by the press despite JAS not using it themselves.
