I'm convinced it's a combination of getting used to the shifter-throw and a bit of wearing in. But this is the first time I've had this on a new Honda, so there is a slight issue there I would say.

Apart from that, the gearbox is pure joy. Been without is for a week now, and I miss it. My 83bhp replacement Jazz is getting it's ass kicked, but nothing really exciting is happening

I've had a few strange 3rd gear changes now, and about 3 in 4 miles or so. Up to this point its being going like a dream.

When/if Honda sort this do you think it will be a total recall (not the film), or do you think they will just fix it for those who complain?

You would hope that they would do a recall on cars that could be effected and then if you've not experianced this problem you don't have to do anything if you don't want, but I bet it will just be for the ones that go back to the dealer and complain about it.

If it's anything like the fuel cap fix, it'll be picked up at the next service...
maybe

Well was still not happy so booked my car in last week to go in yesterday to have it looked at.
Took my car in on the 23rd Jul, orginally told that it would take a couple of days so was told wed at the latest.
had the call from my Honda dealer yesterday eve. turns out that my car is up on the ramp wiv the gearbox in pieces and will be for quite a while, they have found the problem and will require a nre 3rd gear syncro. and linkage, The technician has been in contact wiv Honda UK and all of a sudden they are now ware there is a problem and that a 3rd gear modification kit is being released, seems Honda were even keeping the Honda dealerships in the dark about this one.
So to get to the point, the kit is not coming in til the second or third week in Aug. so by poor little baby is gonna be in bits for a few a weeks....and to top it all Honda UK were meant to call me today to arrange to deliver a courtesy car to me, and did they? NO!!!! so not only am I without a car but am now having to chase Honda, is this really the service we have come to expect from Honda, even the technician at my Honda dealer seemed annoyed wiv them.
This would imply that the recent (post Aug 07) Type Rs should have the mod fitted as standard and should not therefore have a problem. It would be very interesting to know if and when the change was made.

It seems there is a problem with the master cylinder. At least that is what the guys from the service told me. They ordered 2 new MCs for me and another guy with a FN2. The new MC has a different code, so there seems to be a problem with the old one.
Mine started clicking after 5000km.

I have the same problem. I queried it with the dealership and they said that it was something to do with the cruise control (?). I need to book her in shortly as I also have a number of other small issues - so will have it looked at further.

Just reached 1000 miles this afternoon, after about 500 miles the 3rd gear thing seemed to gradually go away,
Gear change is now so smooth

I had trouble when I first got the car, although I agree that I think it is mainly getting used to the throw of the gearbox, when you remember to give it a good solid push in, it does go away. It used to pop out all the time, but now it does go in really smoothly.

I have found that too.
It is either going away or I am just getting used to changing correctly.
Tis a very close box isnt it ?
