my gearbox is still rubbish. had 3rd and 4th synchros changed for 3rd gear problem but now have problem with 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear changes. garage tech gaffer(who's very helpful) said he felt something when down changing to 2nd, so he got service manager to test drive and he said there's nothing wrong with it, they are taking my car to test drive it for a week, not happy about it cos no doubt they'll be thrashing round in it, but not much else i can do. rang honda uk they said i got to take it to the dealer and if i'm not happy with them take it to another franchise for a second opinion. pretty fed up with it now and the fact that no one is bothered about it. this is my first honda and proberbly will be my last...muh

wow it's kind of crazy that you guys (fn2 owners) are having problems with 3rd gear because its the biggest complaint with the civic si fg2 from the US. Honda usually gives us the dulled down docile versions of a type r so it wasnt really a surprise we had the problem since our ep3 had it also, but for the type r's to have it is unacceptable.

Yep, had my FN2 since April '07. Done 15K and 3rd gear still misses from time to time. I haqve had recalls for the handbrake and the drivers door handle and asked dealer about 3rd gear problem when car was in. He acknowledged there was a problem, but told me rapair bundle was not yet available. Would be good to hear if anyone has had a fix done.

My experiences
I've had my FN2 for around 6 months now and have done approx 13000km.
In the first 5000km I had the third gear pop out here and there and it felt as if it never went right in sometimes. 2/3/4 gears tended to be a notchy at high revs when downshifting and upshifting. from 5000km-12000km third gear never popped out but it has been notchy on downshifts only, upshifts were beautiful and slotted in fine. and from 12000km, I had fitted a Honda OEM Limited Slip Diff into the gearbox, had the bearings changed, new oil and now the gearbox is fine doing anything, high/low rev up/down shift, everything slots in beautifully, no notchyness at all amazingly. It's great and I can turn even more aggressively and there isn't so much understeer now as well. Don't know why a LSD wasn't made standard. Seik Last edited by seiken; 1st April 2008 at 06:38. |

I have the same problem with my car bought just 2 months ago.
I called Honda Italia and they told me that it's a well known problem that affects also some models of Honda CRV. They are still working on a fix in Japan and the release is expected for the end of April. |

It is not an easy bolt on. the part itself is easy to obtain, in that you can get any K20A gearbox LSD and fit it so that counts in all type-r's from japan. Fitting the LSD itself into the gearbox is alot of work, the gearbox needs to be taken out of the car and opened up, then you need new bearings and have them pressed onto the LSD ,then fitted and then put the gearbox back in. Very time consuming and expensive. Quote:
Well based on conversion rates, i'm from aus, the LSD itself set me back approx £200, i bought it when i was in japan and fitting was £300. fitting cost more than the LSD itself lol. It is advised if your going to fit a LSD than you change your clutch and flywheel at the same time to save yourself some money when it's time to replace them. Seik |

i think here we can get a quaiffe LSD for around £600 plus vat and then there is fitting, but definitely for trackdays and the like, a LSD is essential where is your LSD from ? DC5 ? |
