I've just been along to my local dealer - Lookers Honda Nottingham, to enquire about getting my Type R's 3rd gear looked at.....
The service bloke I spoke to said that I'd have to book it in for a prelim check before THEY decide if any work needs doing to it....so it's booked in for that on the 9th June..... I also asked him if he'd heard anything of the issue before, and he tentatively said that he "thinks he may have had 1 other person mention something about it before...." We shall see then I guess.... |

So far, so good.
FN2 Type R
Mine was obtained from there. Have had nothing but sheer pleasure with the car. No problem with third gear at all. No problem with handbrake, although received follow up letter today. No problem with foglights [Gray 52!]. Only "complaint" is number of paint chips on bonnet! Really frustrating. Car is everything I'd hoped for. Have done over 4K now so I'm hoping nothing manifests itself from here on in. |

Is there an official Bulletin Number for Honda under the 3rd gear problem?
Spoke to my dealership & they have not heard of & have seached their system finding NONE official release or notes about the "3rd gear Syncro Mesh". They had my car today. They drove mine & the test driven Type R & couldnt find a difference in the two, which understandably wouldnt unless it was driven really hard. Like i said **, mine is not a BIG problem, the dealership was quite cool about it, they did say any problems that i may find in future or if it becomes worse, just bring it in. I will give it a few more K & see if it gets better, mine is on less than 3K. AGAIN if anyone has official Honda Bulletin numbers, let me know. |

Maybe the following link is of help: http://automotivetech.org/at/6spdtsb.pdf It is an American Service Bulletin, but according to my knowlegde the Euro Civic TypeR gearbox is similar to the American Civic Si model. Best regards, John |

Just visited the dealer as a bit of my city pack was about to come free
So...I decided to mention 3rd gear as well. They admited that there may be a problem and agreed to look at it for 'diagnosis'. They said it was the 3rd gear synchro at fault. They are going to pre-order the parts for the 3rd gear issue. So hopefully they will agree that it's at fault and fix it. Top marks so far. p.s. dealer is Avonvale Solihull. |

Go to the dealer and ask them to look at that system or find another dealership who actually want to help you. Sorry, rant over. |

Got mine back this afternoon from Lookers, Nottingham who told me that one of their mechanics took it out today and "could not replicate the fault with 3rd gear as i had reported it".....
How annoying is that!!! He also said that if it persists, then bring it back again, and I drive whilst taking one of the mechanics out with me to demonstrate - but you know what'll happen - it'll have a 'good day' and won't do it for toffee!! Oh, they DID sort the handbrake though today which now feels much more positive.... |

I've just been out for a 15 mile drive (post 3rd gear fix) and can report no problems at all. It's early days but it looks like they have fixed it!
In light of some people having trouble getting their dealer to aknowledge this issue, do you think we should have a section somewhere (maybe the wiki) that lists the dearlers that have fixed the problem? That way people can vote with their feet and go to another dealer. What do people think? |

Left my type r in for a 3rd synchro replacement due to clunkiness and the frequent refusal to engage that was driving me mad. I've had it back for about 4 weeks and it hasn't skipped a beat, super sweet smooth gear changes every time. Dealer informed me he fitted a newly revised production part...

Hi Guys,
Again I would like to ask the same question. Does any of you have a bulletin number, fix number or parts number when it comes to 3rd gear synchro replace? Thanks! |

3rd Gear Issue
I have just had 3rd gear replaced (fri-sat of last week).
So far the 'fix' is to my liking. Unfortunately I don't have a breakdown of parts replaced. The service department acknowleged the problem after a test drive. I am now waiting for a replacement clutch Master Cylinder after only 10 month and 7,000 miles. Silver Civic Type R GT, |

Sorry, no bulletin number etc. You don't get any paper work or invoice listing what was done. They just give you the keys back and say it is fixed...in fact they barely admitted that the problem existed at all. |
