Service cost

I can't seem to find anything that tells me the service costs for the type-r, are they different to the 1.8 service costs?

Can you get the Honda Happiness for the type-r?

From what I've read, £500 is the normal price.

Anyone know about service costs without Happiness? My budget isn't likely to stretch to a completely new type-r and it's going to be a few months before I'm looking to buy, so the car I get may be more than 8 months old.

I've taken out the 5 year service plan on my new type r, it is £500, the same as any petrol civic. From what I've read on this site, you probably save about £300-£400 by doing it this way.

It all depends on how long you intend keeping the car.

I will likely change at my usual 3 years so the chances are that I will only need to pay for the first 2 services which are less than £500.

I think my first one is about £90 for example and I cannot see the second one being > £410.

I was told by the dealer that if you were to pay for each service over a five year period it would cost £1200ish. This sounds about right as I was paying about £260 a service for my 02 CTR.

The first service is due about 13K.

servicing is every 12,500 miles or 12 months which ever comes first and if you are going to keep the car for 5 years the BPS (budget plan servicing) is fantastic value for money

The value of the happiness package also depends on where you get the car serviced. Not all Honda dealerships charge the same, I've never paid over £180 for a service on a CTR and that's all in. I've been quoted a diference of £100 on services between a dealer in the north east and and one in the south west.

You can pass any reminaing service onto the new owner and add £200 pound to the sell price

The honda happiness pack age is a good idea. Only thing is though its more expensive for the diesel. Its £500 for petrol vehiles and £850 for diesels. Go figure

Fantastic value in my opinion.Think about it 5 years servicing for £500,that's £100 a year.If you took an old car to a back street garage it would cost you £80.As simrjor said, you can pass it on when you sell meaning it's another selling point.

This really is a good deal - its not as cheap as the BMW Mini though. Bought one of those about 6 months ago and got a 5 year servicing plan plan for £150! In fact just before we picked the car up, they decided to throw it in for free ....happy days

Good thread!

My second service on my 2.2 is due next week and I was quoted £350 for the service from my local dealership (I know it's not a type R!).

When I phoned a different dealership for a quote they told me to join Honda Happiness which is free to join (so he said), so I called my dealership back and they told me that Honda Happiness is only offered to people with cars over 4 years old. Now I'm completely confused!

Is Honda Happiness free to join?
Is Honda Happiness offered to people with new cars (was never mentioned at the time I bought my car)?
Why don't the dealerships know their products?!

There appear to be 2 Honda Happiness packages:

One is the servicing deal that is/was £500 for petrol models which covers 5 services or 62,500 miles (5 years).

The second seems to be the one that guarantees Honda servicing/pricing and the use of genuine Honda parts etc.

I suspect that dealers have realised that charging us for 5 seperate services is more lucrative than us paying £500 up front.

From my experience Honda happiness is offered at the time of purchase on new cars. Its a great of saving money if you intend to keep the car for a long period. I'm sorry but I'm uncertain if they offer it on used cars. It is however not free, and the list price for the Type R is £500 for 5 years or 62k miles whichever comes sooner. Hope this helps
