My 3rd gear experience...help please

I'm starting this thread because I feel my 3rd gear issues are a little different to others' experiences I've read about.
This is partly because my Type R is MY11 and some people seem to think it's only the earlier models that are affected.

Shifting into 3rd gear usually feels "notchy" or as though the gearstick is grinding into position (I think it's also audible). Only on a couple of occassions have I experienced something similar in other gears. It has never popped out of gear - it just doesn't always shift smoothly.

I'm bringing this up because I've heard some say how smooth their gearbox is and I can't say the same about mine!

-Is this "grinding" of the shifter into gear bad/causing damage in any way?
-Is shifting gears meant to be perfectly smooth or should I expect what I've experienced?
-Is it worth getting this repaired?

Thanks everyone!!

Clutch adjustment? You must have the revised synchro in an 11 plate which is all honda would do

I wouldnt say mine is as smooth as the other gears, I think its a 'feature' of the car myself every one I have drove have been the same even when the owners have claimed it isnt

Is it more noticeable from cold?

My car is a my10 and I get this, especially from cold and in 3rd gear. Once the car is up to temp it happens a lot less. If you are using your car for lots of short journeys then it can get right on your wick!!

I'm going to see Honda about my 3rd gear and the clicking clutch pedal.

It's not a consumable part and given the history of the issue with that that synchro set in the FN2 I wouldn't think it's out of the question.

You shouldn't be replacing synchros on a 1-2 year old car

Mine is 09 has 3rd gear issues and my dealer wouldn't warranty it they said it had non honda gearbox oil put in when i had my clutch done at a garage, even though i reported this before the clutch was replaced as honda told me it was the clutch causing the problems, he soon back tracked saying last time was booked in for gear selection this time was booked in for bearing noise (he told me that this is the problem and should book it in). Im reading more and more people having these gear problems again with syncros and bearings just a shame dealers are being a pain doing anything about it.

Does anyone know if this issue has been known to affect any other gears (apart from 3rd gear)?

-Is this "grinding" of the shifter into gear bad/causing damage in any way?

yes it is, so avoid it... once you get in the car, adjust your seat properly in the way you can properly extend your left leg to the clutch..

-Is shifting gears meant to be perfectly smooth or should I expect what I've experienced?

it should be perfectly smooth..

-Is it worth getting this repaired?

yes it is, the gearbox was part of transmission assembly which connected to the engine, can only be done by expert...

i hope this will help...
