Usually when up at those speed the speedo will over read a good bit. Get it GPS verified, then at least you have some accuracy to go on

The car does 146mph, what its geared for, what Honda state in the manual

given a likely 10% overread on the speedo, it's showing 147mph.

DC5 points out a quoted top of 146mph.

So yes, I'd say it's potentially real, given a long enough empty autobahn

chances are that the R might just about pull to the red line in 6th.

enc is a pic of my TT (at bruntingthorpe runway before anyone shouts ) doing 145 indicated (140ish real), and it was still accelerating (slowly) towards published 155.
Which it would have reached just about at the red line.

So if a TT can pull red line in 6th, no reason why an R wouldn't

I don't think it's even a TYPE R as the rev counter isn't back lit in red it's blue like the mortal versions.

I cant remember officer

But the guy who gave it to me, said he was he was confident of hitting 170mph if he removed the wipers, taped all the panel joints and retracted the mirrors. He also said he was going to try it tonight on the autobahn north of Belfast after a few bevvies with the lads.

Any car will red line in top gear eventually, look for a hill and off you go

The CTR is geared to max out at 146mph, anything over and above is probably due to speedo over reading.

The "Performance / gearing comparison between EP3 and FN2" thread by Pottsy gives some credibility to the photograph:

The type R appears to be geared for 165 mph at 8000rpm, assuming of course it has enough power or a tail wind to reach this speed. See attached Graph below.

If you look at the photograph the car is doing 263 kph = 163.5 mph. The rev counter is also reading @ 8000rpm.

This leads to the conclusion that if the gearing graphs are accurate, then the photo is credible. It also means that the speedo is not over optimistic and the car was actually travelling at 163.5 mph !!

Place your orders now!
