Question Type R - Rear End View Options

Honda were thinking about other options for the rear of the Civic.

Which do you prefer ?
- the one we have
or
- the one they were thinking about

What happened to those ten spoke alloys ?
.

The one they were thinking about! You might be able to see something out the rear window as well!! Not that anythings there for long!

Those wheels are awesome to, more so than the rage's.

What also happened to white as a colour option to??!?!

Yeah I agree with the image there were thinking about..the spoiler is in a good position and also the back lights look much better as it's blacked out in the middle. Instead of the white plactic bit.

Those alloys, I WANT THOSE!!!!

I think I prefer the one we got. I like the rear windscreen better and I think the concept is too similar to the previous gen.

I prefer the current one; rear view has never been a problem for me, either on my current RGT or the previous EX.

The clue is the top photo i.e. the marina. Honda want to broaden the appeal of the Type R, reaching out to those who would probably otherwise choose a Golf GTI/Audi.

I think the top one looks classier, but the spoiler is more practical in the lower photo (I like the alloys in that too).

All in all, though, I think Honda got it exactly right. Yes, you can argue it dilutes the Type R philosophy, but I'm sure that won't matter a jot to those already in possession of one!

yes your right, but being an aerospace engineer, the rear spoiler does jack where it is in the current ctr (in terms of aerodynamics), the rear of the car would not have the 'zero boundary layer effect' with lower viscosity, basically it wont do jack and is purelly for stylling

Yep, I'm sure the styling was a big factor in the final decision. After all, just look at how many lukewarm hatches have a rear diffuser (or should I say mock diffuser) these days. Even the latest Twingo GT has one. And that's only got 100bhp!

I think the rear spoiler looks more aggresive on the concept but agree it maybe looks too similar to the ep3.

Ahhhh, those wheels, those wheels. Imo the worst omission from concept to production. If they ever release these wheels (maybe as a special edition or something) I'll be at the front of the queue!

And i would imagine they are holding white paint back for a special edition too.

I did a photoshop a while ago:

I think I prefer the look we have now but the extra visibility would have been nice

I like hondaatjes twin spoiler setup. I do think the model we ended up with is much better looking than the 'bread van' ep3!

.

Amazing, it looks like a real unaltered photo.

I prefer this to the spoiler in the middle of the window that Honda came up with and the prototype they ditched.

Can you add a rear wiper as well !!

I have added a photo of a silver CTR from a similar angle for comparison.
