Upgrade to sat nav & HFT??
Hi all. Does any one know if you can upgrade to the sat nav and HFT after you have bought the car? I couldnt upgrade to it at the time of purchase, due to this car already being the the show room as somebody ordered the car and gave back word.

Yeah, i agree with much cheaper, but i dont really want all the wires on show, and the ring mark that the tom tom leaves on the window every time you remove the holder. I have actually got an older tom tom go500 that you can connect your phone to with bluetooth, but its crap to use as a hands free for the phone. No one can ever hear you talking.

I wonder why the likes of TomTom can't produce a holder that is something like the Braun electric toothbrush chargers ?
No exposed wires or electrical connectors and simply slots onto the spindle. A suitable unit with a larger spindle and all designed in black would be far better than the windscreen mounts. I also wonder why TomTom insist on fixed length straight cables instead of flexible coiled ones that would stretch to fit and would look far better. |

the Parrot properly fitted doesn't have wires all over the place (Ill take some pics of mine) and for the TomTom get a Brodit clip for either the centre console or air vet, no ring mark on windscreen then, much neater too. You only then have the power wire for the Tom Tom when you are using it or again it can be hardwired using an active Bordit mount. I would also argue that th TomTom is better as you can run PIO's for speedcameras (you can't on the Hinda one) map updates cost under £100 for all of Western Europe (£300 for an update to the Honda one!!) |

It works brilliantly, he fitted the parrot and a connects 2 box and DAB ICS100 that I supplied and charged me £150 (mates rates - it took him about 4 hours all in) to do the lot. So I now have DAB radio a bluetooth hands free kit and an aux in for my MP3 player for £230 all in |

Lucky you! I dont supose hed travell up to Doncaster to fit it tho.
I dont really like to see stuff added onto the inside of the car. Where have you mounted the parrot screen? Can you remove the display or does it have to stay inplace all the time? (Pics would be helpfull) cheers |

back to the oringal question - can sat nav be retro fitted?
It probably could, but it's far from an easy job, and would certainly cost more than the original £800 or so option Needs new dash, sat nav screen, steering wheel (for voice command buttons) and a lot of labour |

Which is the best position for a Brodit Clip? I have found three different versions for the Civic. How is it fixed? Is it universal for any Sat Nav, or does it have to be specific for a particular Sat Nav? I have a Garmin nuvi 350T. Sorry for these facile questions, but have only just bought my first Sat Nav. The sucker which comes with it I find impossible to fix to the windscreen. Many thanks to anyone who can help. |

I am looking at similar ideas and have received some good links from this and another site. The best aftermarket Sat Nav according to Which Magazine is the Snooper Syrius (90%) and second was the TomTom 510(89%) so either of them will be my choice having read the reviews. I went to one of the sites and was forwarded to Brodit.com All you do is type in your car type and it shows you the option of 3 different fitting kits (I particularly dislike the windscreen mount for the obvious of reasons). The mounts fit either to the left of the gearstick or the vent clip. Option 2 is recommended by Sat Nav suppliers) I am not sure that the vent kit would be ideal for this type of device but I am sure a photo from one of our spaceship owners would identify that one way or the other. The Brodit kit costs around £19.99 and looking at the photos/video are painless to fit. I have been looking at the Parrot Bluetooth kit and a work colleague has this tidy 3100 Evolution kit neatly located just behind her ash tray (Honda Civic) She seems well impressed with it (she must do because she spends hours on it Ha!!) The cost of that particular kit is £99.00 fitted at Halfords

I've a Garmin Nüvi 660 mounted on the airvent with the Brodit proclip kit. Easy to fit and no problem with warm/cool air ... Honda europe propose a Nüvi kit with all Honda dealer and other stuff fixed on the dashboard as an accessories. (sea Honda Europe site for more info.)
And I'm looking for a better solution for the wiring (both energy and link with the head unit) |

On a geeky note, I have noticed on the 1.4s hire car Civic I have at the moment that the main dashboard top part is the same on non sat nav models as sat nav versions. What I mean is the triangular trim/design piece (which is actually part of the molded top) adjacent to the nav display or radio display is the same on both versions - on non nav versions, the plastic panel covering the top of the radio (behind the vents) cover is flat an level, covering part of the triangle, whereas on the sat nav versions, the radio cover dips down exposing the bottom edge of the triangle |

My old TT1 used to pick up the signal from anywhere, even in the centre of my house with no line of sight, and in the brick garage with the doors shut.
I think it was the SIRFIII chipset? I don't think I would like to mount a TT near the gearstick as it's not in easy line of sight down there. The Brodit by the glovebox would be better. I'm not a fan of airvent mounts as I cannot see the icy air in Summer doing them much good. |
