I've done about 600 miles with the Type R. First Tank was about 30mpg and now I'm between 27.9 - 28.9 permanantley. Is everyone using Super unleaded (98 RON)? Also, does using cruise control make any difference at all with economy figures. Cheers ppl.

whats not to believe? I normally get about 270 miles before fuel light comes on, so 300 driving like a granny is acheiveable

er a big picture of a petrol pump appears in the middle of the rev counter, a little yellw fuel pump appears on the dash and a small yello "info" symbol appears next to the speedo. It also beeps every time you start the engine til you fill up

fuel light should come on when the 'distance remaining' display on the dash says you have about 25 - 30 miles left.

On the 2.2 (and I can't imagine why the R would be different), filling up until the pump 'clicks' for the first time should see you getting about 44ltrs in (45 or 46 ltrs if you fill it right up to the filler cap), so you should have best part of a gallon of fuel left at that point.

vtec - what indicator are you looking at that goes to zero when the vtec light is on?

0 mpg is like just drilling a dirty great hole in the fuel tank and watching the petrol fall out onto the floor - not even a veyron drinks it quite that fast

looking at the guage that bobs from left to right (actually usually the other way round), even when I accelerate slowly the guage is about 20mpg, no way when I vtec is it 20, absolutly no way, otherwise I will vtec all the TIME!!!!!

it will also depend on which gear you are in when in the Vtec zone...

loads of revs + 1st gear is obviously going to give less mpg than loads of revs + 3rd gear

this also aplies in reverse at higher gears...
loads of revs + 6th gear will actually give a low mpg, as the wind resistance at that speed is quite high.

But we won't go there

Mpg

just a thought but what doe your average fuel consumption say, cause it sounds like you are looking at the display bar and not your average mpg

how many miles you get out of a fill up

Funny how everyone is getting miles out of their gallons.
My CTR only get's Km's out of Litre's. Must have a different car or something

Oh, I get about 500km out of 1 tank. Mixed driving. There's no way I could drive granny only for more then 500km. I'd probably eat the steering wheel by then. So it's always mixed.

500kms - that's about 312miles in 'real' distance

which actually, is not all that much less than the 430miles I usually get from my diesel

(ok - yes it is a lot less, and I'm just trying to make you feel good )

when I fill up it sa something like 380 miles left, i never ever get that amount, and the other day it said 90 miles left, and driving for about 40 miles then it says 120 miles left, what a rubbish system! and I drive pretty much the same everyday on the motorway but some days il get 40 some day 20, really inconsistant
