thanks for the reply Angie, was hoping it would do a bit more than that at 70mph.

Not a problem. You tend to find that the guys who do a lot of motorway driving get about 31-33mpg, but if your like me doing 70mph mostly then slowing in town it soon cuts the mpg, plus it is winter.

It is better mpg than the other hot hatch's on the market, but if you do a lot of driving then maybe the 2.2 Sport is for you. I did look at that but when I ordered the CTR the price of petrol wasn't what it was and quite frankly i'm getting the same out of this 2.0l CTR as I was getting in my Mini before

mmm the sport looks nowhere near as good as the R with the 19" wheels on though.

the wifes 130i can do 35mpg @ 70-75 on the m'way.

it's not uncommon for me to get 400 miles from a tank if I keep it @ 70 on my daily 60 mile round trip to work

but those days have passed in favour of a Friday detour to actually enjoy what I paid my money for, so 320 a tank is now the norm Mon-Fri

This weekend I did a bit more spirited driving as it was my birthday and my range dropped to 240 !!!

p.s. the brakes on the FN2 are pretty poor after an hour of b roads

Yeah, but the BMW 130i is a 3.0l Straight 6, not a 2.0l 4 Cylinder.

I find I can get better fuel consumption from a 530d, a 330ci coupe and a M3 convertible driving the excat same way as the CTR. Its madness I tell you!

YES!!!!! If you have a CTR and you have the light switch on (some dealers have this set up for you, but some have to do it themselves) then to the right of the speed on the speedo you have a little Type R light which is always lit and then you have this light with a little circle before it which says i-Vtec. When you reach 5200rpm a red light comes on and stays on whilst in i-Vtec mode.

Can't believe the fuel economy everyone seems to be getting. If I drive carefully with AC off I struggle to get out of the mid 20's... Typically I average 23 mpg. However, I guess it IS winter and I also do a lot of London driving which means: Stop, start, stop, start, brake for speed bump, accelerate again, brake for next speed bump, slow down for craters in road surface, wait in traffic jam caused by someone double parking, get stuck in large queue which never used to be there until they put a bus lane in, etc...

Drove to Birmingham recently and with the motorway run etc, my tank lasted for 350 miles, rather than the 220 odd I normally get.

That sounds about right, I do notice that my car has a better mpg on the motorway too.

My MPG has just plummeted full stop due to the fact I haven't driven it for so long and it needed a good thrashing

I've seen myself get about 38MPG in town when in 6th doing 30mph, as long as the lights are at green that is. Doesn't help when you start and stop all the time

Hey guys, Im a newbie around here, and Im trying to catch up with your topics.

I have my ctr fn2 for 6 months now, but i only drive about 20 kms a day, so i have 4300 km (sorry, but im no good on the imperial system :P )

The idea is my fuel consumption (in the crowded capital of Romania) is now around 18l/100km - that is around 16 MPG. But i have to say I rarely shift below 6000 RPM - and never below 5000.

When I bought this car fuel consumption was the last thing on my mind! I love this car, I love the sound the engine does, and at 8000 the sound is even better

Oh, and by the way, some friends told me its not good to drive this car at 3000-4000 RPM, this car is meant to be revved up!

The engine is designed to be thrashed, but thats a complete load of nonsense that its not good to drive between 3000-4000rpm! Your 'friend' doesn't happen to own a petrol station by any chance

I'd love to see what the police would have to say if they stopped someone for speeding in say a 30mph limit, unless of course you had it in 2nd/3rd gear. 'Sorry officer its not good for me to drive my car at 3000-4000rpm, hence why I was doing 70mph'

I think if you mince about in it too much the ECU/fuel map will change, so when you do boot it the car will be thinking more about fuel and not about performance. If you give it a good boot every so often the map shouldnt change.
