My last car was an RX8(230), I was told that you got the best fuel consumption at 4000rpm,
In able to drive at the 30mph speed limit you had to keep it in 2nd gear!
The upside (apart from slightly better fuel consumption )of doing this is when you got a 70mph road sign, you could keep it in second till you hit 70
(boy that car was fast)

ive found a way to increase your MPG if it makes you feel better.

I was always floating around the 28mpg figure then one day messed around with the computer and enabled the "reset trip" option when refueling. Which causes the all trip to reset ive noticed now that with normal driving i can get it up to 40mpg lol, but that only lasts for the first couple of litres  lol

Still makes you feel good.

70 mph in city limits?? I could lose the right to drive a car for a whole month for that! Police is pretty strict around here, plus they dont really like HotHatches and sport cars so much :P

But then again, if I want to "cruise" i put on the radar detector and bon voyage

And about the 3000 RPM shifting: they explained me that if I always drive a sport car like this the engine becomes "lazy", plus I could have to go to the service several times a year to clean up the injectors.

And admit it, you gotta love the sound it does at 8000 RPM! )

After watching the BP Ultimate test with 2 Ford Focus ST cars on the Autoexpress website i decided to top up with it for the first time ever.

It's dam expensive at the moment at £1.20 a litre but the difference is great. I was Very supprised that i can feel the difference and see the mpg increase.

I was running on vapours when i got to the garage so i must have got the full benefit straight away. Maybe at this cost i might not use it all the time but if i feel like a good blast i'll use this.

it's true, a gasoline with high octanic figure not only increases the car performance, but also lowers the fuel consumption, because it burns almost completly, as opposed to lower quality gasoline (95) which burns partially.

I only put on OMV Carrera 100 (its imported from Austria) - the main disadvantage is it's more expensive in Romania than in Austria! (but that's a different story )

We should do a test to see if there is a performance difference between OMV 100 and a normal 95 gasoline.... Of course, for our cars.
I ran on 98,99 and 100 for 5k km and now I use 95. No difference what so ever. Except for the price

I just popped out to get something and managed to find Vpower in Edinburgh. Hooray! So i've got that in it and will see how it gets. On the other issue of not driving between 3000rpm and 4000rpm, I was struggling to reach 4000rpm in 2nd at 30mph! So if you do a lot of driving in built up areas then your going to stick it in first gear most of the time God knows what made me try that just now.

I think as long as you get it a good 'v teccing' now and again, there will be no problems.

Hows this for good...

I did however just drive down the M69 (with a 50mph limit) and then up the M1 (again with a 50 limit between 25-27)... but not bad, used the cruise for most of it all.

Sorry

This did look better until my new phone mucked with the quality of the image. This was also doing 50mpg with the cruise on along some quite roads home. As It had read 44mpg until I pulled into the street where I live.

Vw's FSI (Fuel Stratified Injection) systems are designed to run on the 'super' unleaded style of higher octane fuel. they'll happily perform on normal fuel but reach their optimum 'brochure stat' consumption/performance whilst running on the 'harder stuff'....
therfore you should see/feel a difference in the civic with the same, if anyone can afford to do this, please let us know!!!

Can't put 100ron in it, but I have put Shells VPower in, which is 99ron compared to the 95ron I have had in it. I have noticed before in my prev car that I got better consumption from the Super unleaded and although it was more expensive it worked out to save in the long term because I wasn't haven't to fill it as much. And I only did it because a EP3 owner had told me how much their mpg had increased since using it and I thought if its worked for that then it will work for me!

I have already seen an increase in the MPG since running it on V Power since yesterday. My MPG went from 24.2 to 27.9 on the same strech of road home, with slightly more traffic and a good boot now and again. Had the usual obsticals like stopping for lights, buses pulling out, junctions etc but so far and very good! Well worth the extra 8p

108.9p, was 100.9p for unleaded at Shell. I could have gone to Asda where its still 99.9p but thought I would try and once again find the good stuff and I did.

Down here in Watford (north London) its £1.079 litre and near where I live in Enfield its £1.12p (20 miles away). You have to shop around!

Yeh, don't why it's so expensive where I live, as I live about 3 miles from the biggest (might be the only) fuel distribution depot in Scotland. The tanker only has to travel about 1/2 a mile fo the station where I fill up, yet if you drive a further 20 miles to Edindurgh its 8-10p cheaper a litre by the looks of it.

as said before putting in higher octane fuel will help mpg slighty,i was averaging around 23mpg and since having the hondata ecu fitted and driving with a big smile on my face the consumption has gone up to 24,not a lot but i thought it would get worse,as i'm in vtec most of the time from 3000 rpm cool.

I always find that strange as round your area its always alot higher than here and Grangemouth, owned by BP is the only fuel depot in Scotland. Utter madness!!!
